Till fish ladders make It too easy
for salmon to reach the spawning
grounds.
Uprlver fishermen, along with con
ervatlontsta generally, claimed pre
viously the big dam would deatroy
the fish run. Now they say the net
work of ladders gives the salmon an
avenue to spawning grounds that
doesn't sufficiently tax Ita energy.
Previously fish reaching the upper
river were so exhauated they rested
In quiet pools and, so to apeak,
caught their breath. Thla made fish
ing good. Now they reach the same
regions without having to fight
through the fast water and do not
pause for their half-way point rest.
Fishing la poor.
Observers say the fish laddera have
eliminated tho bruising tussle in the
rock strewn rapids that prevloualy
existed in the Bonneville vicinity.
