OCTOBER ft. 1938, Society and Clubs By Clara Mary Davit Luncheon Shower Party Honors Miss Emily Brown Mrs. Jack Simpson entertained yes terday afternoon at her home or Howard street with a luncheon and bridge shower party honoring Mlra Xmlly Frazer Brown, bride elect. Luncheon was sorved at small tables prettily appointed with (all flowers. OuesU presented the honors with many lovely handkerchiefs at the shower after which bridge was en Joyed for the remainder of the after noon. Recipients of bridge prizes in eluded Mrs. Chester Hubbard and Mrs. Allan P. Perry. Those present at the affair ware: Mesdamea Dwlght Plndley. William McAlllstor, Frank Perl, Cheater Hub bard, Allan F. Perry, Kenneth Den man and L. L. Sanders. Miss Brown's marriage to Mr. Rob ert Leonard McClure of Chicago will be solemnized In this elty Friday, October 14. She Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Frazer Brown and a prominent member of Med ford's social set. Federated Group Enjoys Session F riday Afternoon Federated missionary council of Modford met Friday afternoon at the Zlon Luthoran church with the pres ident, Mrs. Donna Taylor In charge of the business session. Interesting reports were lven by the presidents of the following socle - ties: Baptist, Christian, Lutheran, , First Methodist, Naearene. South Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal and Jacksonville Presbyterian. Mrs. Maynard Putney conducted the devotional period. Dr. 0. O. Drum- mond of the First Christian church, a retired missionary from India, ' gave a very Interesting talk of work In India. A violin solo by Hay won, accompanied by Mrs. Werner Jessen -and a vocal solo by Mrs. Jesssn ac companied by Katharine Oentncr were enjoyed by the audience. Refreshments were served by the women of the hostess church. Farewell Party Honors Couple A delightful farewell party was given Tuesday evening at the homo of Mrs. Daphne Wilcox on Taylor street. The affair honored Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Crowel wro are leaving Medford soon to make their home near Ruch. Thirty-two friends were present and the evening waa spent In play ing games and visiting. Mary Smith and Mamie Benford assisted the hostess In serving re freshments. Grange Couple Announce Troth The wedding In lata October of Miss Florence Clifford of Medford and Morris Byrne of Applegate was announced during the lunch hour following the booster night program at Upper Applegate Orange Friday evening. The bride-to-be Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Clifford, and Mr. Bvrne Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Byrne. Both are well known In Oratice circles. Mrs. Clsra Fisher Is In charge of the affair, Parents Anticipate "Back to School" Occasion Tuesday "Parents Back to School Night" will be an occasion which no parent who Is Interested In his child and his school Is going to want to miss. Next Tuesday night, beginning at 8 p.m., the teachers of Junior High school, cooperating with the P.-T. A. are throwing the school wide open and parents are going to shed a few years and bo "school kids" onoe more. "School" will operate on Its regular schedule with the exception that the periods will be shorter and par ents are to take the places of their children. They will meet their child's teachers. They may alt In their child's seat, see how his rooms look and where they an located. Teacher will call their regular rolls and parents will anawer "pres ent" for his child's name. Parents will definitely not be asked to recite, but may ask the tescher aa many question a he like. There will be seven 10-mlnut pe riods. Half of the period will belong to the teacher when they will ex plain briefly the oontent, alms and methods of the course. The second half will belong to the parents for discussions and questions. Following claase every one will re turn to the auditorium to Join In a rousing pep-assembly with Ray Hen derson aa pep leader. Then "lunches" will bo served. The tescher and committee are working hard to make this a big night for parent who can still re member (when tslklng to their chil dren) how good they used to be In school. Already several fathers hav been appointed Bull Dog Guards and will be there, strutting Bull Dogs on their chests, to ahow the "parent-kids" the ropes. -About 000 families are represented In Junior HI, which In turn repre sents between 1000 and 1200 par ents. Surely most of these psrents will appreciate the effort of a staff of hard-working teachers In staying for an entire evening, so that parent may know what la being done for their boys and girls In their respective classes. Every parent who Is properly In, tercsted In his child and his school going to save, If possible, next Tuesday night for "Parents' Back to School Night" at Junior HI school. Roosevelt Circle To Meet Friday Ths Roosevelt Home and School circle wll hold Its first meeting of the year Friday at 3:30 In the after noon. All members are asked to attend. Henry IV. Hal! Henry Wilson Hall, a resident of Medford for the past twenty-one years passed away early Thursday morning at the age of OS years. Mr. Hall with his family came to Med ford from Btenfleld, Ore., In 1917, and had followed carpenter work since coming to Medford. Mrs. Hall preceded htm In death In 1933. He is survived by his mother who with two sisters reside In North Dakota, one sister In Texaa, five children, Mrs. J. W. Wuelder of Albany, Calif., Mrs. J. C. Rebholtz of 8an Francisco, Cel., Mrs. C.
