SEPTEMBER 30. 1933, P5GE NE5TE FOR BIGGER PACT WASHINGTON, Sept. 30. fp) President Rooeevelt pralaed today the work of the state department and the country's diplomats abroad dur ing the European crisis. In response to press conference question regarding the four-power agreement for the partition of Czech oslovakia, Mr. Roosevelt ltod report ers all he had to say was that a very wonderful service had been per formed by Secretary Hull. Sumner Welles, undersecretary of state, other state department officials and the American diplomatic staffs in vari ous world capitals. The work of these persons, Mr. Roosevelt said, was a fine example of team play and cooperation which met with very great success. The president called the recent tension in Europe a real crisis. Often, he said, situations are termed crises when they are not, btu this week's was a real one. Asked whether this country had received any request to participate In the international commission which will police areas in Sudeten land during the process of German occupation, Mr. Roosevelt recalled a note had been received from the Cwch government yesterday after noon. The note asked this country, through the president, to arbitrate the situation in the event the four power conference at Munich failed. The European situation was chang ed almost before the note was re ceived, the chief executive recalled, by agreement of the four powers at Munich. ' Aafced whether he now considered tt unnecessary to answer the Czech note, the president said this ques tion properly should go to the state department. TO SPONSOR PARTY The fifteen young people who were Initiated into the Epworth League last Sunday evening were assigned the task of sponsoring a party for the entire League. The party Is to be given this evening In the gymnasium of the church and will be known as s. "Popular Punk Party." An interesting program under the direction of Mary France Holloway will be given. The entertainment fea tures will be directed by Mary Lee Strang. Bill Ousterhout will have charge of the clean-up committee. One of the high lights of the eve ning will be a mock wedding por traying certain rumored coming vents. All the young people are an ticipating a great time. LABOR CASES COMPLETED PORTLAND. Ore., Sept. 30. (p) Virtual completion of prosecution of labor terrorists rounded up last win ter In a state-wide campaign was an nounced yesterday by District Attor ney James B&ln. The last two cases handled, against Herbert A. Banks and Prank Minto, were closed yesterday when both pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and were placed on probation for one year. Banks was accused of assault and Minto of breaking a win' dow. Penitentiary sentences were im posed upon seven defendants In 42 cases handled. Norway Celebrates OLSO, Norway. Sept. 30. Old-Fashloned Rronnles (Keep moist If well stored) cup butter 1 cup butter 1 cup granulated sugar a eggs 1 teaspon vanilla 3 squares chocolate, melted !4 teaspoon salt 1 cup flour 33 cup nuts, broken Ya cup milk Cream butter and sugar. Add rest of the Ingredients and beat together for three minutes. (This beating Is very Important since there la no bak ing powder called for In the recipe.) Pour Into a shallow pan lined with waxed paper. Bake for 39 minutes In a moderately alow oven. Cool and cover with fudge frosting. Cut Into bars or cubes. Homemade Mint sauce cup water 14 cup vinegar 3 tablespoons granulated augar '4 teaspoon salt 4 cup chopped fresh mint Bring the water, vinegar, augar and salt to a boll. Add mint. Count Oaleazzo Ctano, who had accompanied him to the Munich meeting that found ways to satisfy Germany's demands on Czechoslovakia and save Europe from war. He and Count Clano entered an automobile immediately and sped through flag-festooned street to the Palazzo Venezia, Mussolini's office. Diplomatic circles considered a start toward withdrawal of Italian legion naires from Spain was likely to result from the peace-saving conference. Cheering throngs turned out at Florence, Trento and other cities along the route of II Duce's train. King Vittorlo Emanuele made a special trip from his summer palace at San Rossore to Florence to con gratulate his premier. The king was waiting on the station platform when the train arrived.
