BETTY LUE REICH 4-H CLUB WINNERS Ashland Lad and Oak Grove : Lass Named County Champions Get Portland Trip. Chosen as the outstanding 4-H club boy and girl In Jackson county by a local Judging committee, Betty Lue Reich of Oak Grove Commun ity and Marvin Poyer of Ashland, will go to Portland as guest of the First National Bank of Portland for three days during the faclftc Inter national Livestock Exposition. They were selected as winners from this county in the third annual 4-H club Achievement and Leadership contest sponsored by tho state-wide banking Institution among the 26, 000 club members In Oregon. . Two club members from every county in the state are being an nounced as winners this week through H. C. Seymour, stato club director, in charge of Judging and awards. Together with two winners from tho City of Portland, the 72 county members will convene in Portland October 0, fl and 7. Height ened interest and personal achieve ment among 4-H club members have made this year's selection a diffi cult task, according to the local Judging committee, composed of C. D. Conrad, county club agent, O. R. Bowman, county school superinten dent, and Eugene Thorndlke, man ager of the Medford branch or the First National Bnnk of Portland. Mini! Reich, member of Oak Grove 4-H club, directed by Mrs. Iva Thomas, Mrs. Bertie Parish and Mrs. Fred Reich, was announced winner among girls for her work in cooking, clothing, canning, Judging and dem onstrations. As recognition of his activity In dairy, awlne, beef, corn and other projects for the past nine years, Master Poyer was chosen from among boys of this county. Ho is a member of the Bolivia w 4-H club under tho leadership of Dick Joy. Awards Include transportation and all other expenses during the visit to Portland which is being arranged by officers of the First National bank of Portland. The 74 guests will follow a three-day program which will Include attendance at the Pa cific International Livestock exposi tion, night-seeing tours of Portland, special luncheons, an evening at the horse show, banquets and a dnnce. Mr. Thorndlke states that every detail of the visit has been arranged by tho bank to lnxure complete com fort and safety of Its 4-H gueata. Mr. Ragsdnle is operating a stand whero newspapers, periodicals, cigar ettea and confections may be pur chased. The first week of business was considered successful and to. day the Lions club urged continued public support of the enterprise. Through an aot of congress, federal buildings have been opened to the establishment of such enterprises by the blind. Through the cooperation of the state and the Lions clubs, nine such enterprises have now been established In Oregon, Mr. Rags- dales being the latest. I y . 5- so SUDETEN LEADER'S ORDERS AT ASCH ASCH, Czechoslovakia, Sept. 29. (AP) Nazi Sudeten Leader Konrad Henletn Crossed back Into Czecho slovakia, spent an hour inspecting his Sudeten free corps fighters' front line, then returned today to his party headquarters at Bayreuth, Ger many. He left 150 free corps legionnaires, who had accompanied him on his first survey of the line., to reinforce Aach volunteers. They had guns heavy, enough to halt attack by armored cars or tanks. The Sudeten fuehrer ordered com bat with Czechoslovak troops be avoided. The Asch volunteers and free corps reinforcements the latter said to be composed entirely of Sudetens who had fled to Germany according to his order were to defend the Asch "free territory," which the 'Czechs have not tried to take. They were not, he said, to Attack Franzensbad or Eger. The only preventative weapons, said s spokesman for the Asch Sude-1 ten government, were on .the front I line.
