Farley Hennessy last week-end.

daughter Helen were week-end guests
at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs.
Gilbert at Klamath lake. Helen caught
five Rainbow trout, the largest of
which weighed 13 pounds.
Evan Young and Bobby Glyn of
McCloud, and Chas. Van Keuren and
Mr. Bush of Salinas, Calif., called at
the Glenn home last week.
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Quthrle of Eu
gene and niece Charlotte Kroessln of
Clatskanle were week-end guests at
the C. C. Sater home. While here they
drove to Jacksonville, where Mrs.
Guthrie's and Mr. Snter's mother used
to shop before Medford waa built.
They also visited the Mystery rouse
on Sardine creek.
Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Bruegger have
purchased the Howard grocery from
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sturman. The
Sturmans have gone to Crescent.
John Van Keuren and sons Jlmmle,
Roger and Dick Van Keuren and Mrs.
H. V. McKean of McCloud, Calif.,
spent the week-end with their moth
er. Mrs. J. F. Glenn.
Howard school has 130 pupils .this
year, which Includes about 30 new
ones. Thirty-one are registered In the
7th and 8th grades, 40 In the 6th and
6th, 30 In the 3d and 4th, and 39 In
the 1st and 2nd. The teaching staff
Is the same as last year.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Johnstone have
purchased the Qulgley grocery on
Berry dale avenue and the old C. P.
highway. Mr. Johnstone has sold his
store in the Griffin Creek district
and will be here next week. He plans
on remodeling the building and In
stalling his barber shop.

A number of grangers met Sunday
with the Baby Beef club at the
Orange hall. Member! of the Beef
club fixed hitch racks for their calves
while the grown-upa worked In the
hall, getting ready for the fatr and
chicken dinner Sunday, September 1).
Mr. and Mra. Roy Orlgsby were
home Sunday from their work In
Medford.
John Walch has been hauling grain
from Klamath county for the past
week.
Mra. Julia Orlasom was a Tuesday
guest of Mrs. John Short.
Miss Mary Nussbaum, who Is at
tending St. Mary's academy, spent
the week-end at home.

Jacksonville Grangers enjoyed a
very delightful musical program Sept.
9 with Pomona Katherlne Earl In
charge. The following numbers were
presented : accordion solos, by Mtsa
Phoebe Swem: dance numbers, by
Miss Jewel Deter, accompanied by
Miss Helen Young; piano solos, by
Helen Young, and a medley of popu
lar songs sung and played by Miss
Betty Hardy.

noon at the last meeting of the club

way. Plans were made to serve the
dinner to the Southern Oregon Pion

observe Booster night with a covered
dish supper and a program and social

Equipment for the Juvenile Grange

a complete set of chairs and a few
new tables. Mra. Anna Wendt acted

Sams Valley Grange
A discussion of the county tax
situation covered an Important por
tion of last Grange meeting, when
some conditions were brought to light
by the legislative chairman, which
were heretofore unfamiliar to many
of the members.
Two new namea were read as ap
plicants for membership. Norma Sage
was obligated In the third and fourth
degrees.
More money donated by Medford
merchants waa turned over to the
building fund. This fund was also
Increased by funds left In the Juve
nlle treasury. The latter amount was
loaned the building committee until
the Juveniles can be reorganized.
Members were again advised to
have material ready for the auction
sale September 33. Cooked food, farm
produce or fancy work will be gladly
accepted for the auction, the funds
of which are to be used to com
plete the hfill. A good program will
be given free to the public before
the auction begins. Everyone wel
come. Lecturer's program consisted of a
very clever skit put on by three mem
bers of the Y.O.A. of the Central
Point Orange; a whistling bird trill
by Mrs. Edna Pyle and a writing and
reading of telegrams by the members
from the word cultivator.
The program for next Saturday
night's meeting will be put on by
navy reserve officers and will con
sist of travel pictures of Interesting
scenfs of the world. This program
Is open to the public and begins
at 1:30 p. m.
