Grass Fire Chemical crew of the city fire department extinguished a grass fire yesterday afternoon at the end of Eastwood drive that burned over approximately 10 acres, with no damage to property. To Funeral Mr. and Mrs. trl Groves left yesterday for Cottage Grove to attend the funeral today of Mr. Groves' mother, Mrs. Margaret Groves, who died while on a camping trip Tuesday night. Mrs. Grovs. who was 70 years old. was a frequent visitor at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, 108 Genesee street. She has lived In the Cottage Grove district for the past 40 years. Searches for Son Mrs. Deal la Hurse of route 2. box 018, Mllwaukle, Ore., requests Information from any body knowing the whereabouts of her son, Mike Hurse, missing from home since January of this year. Mrs. Hurse writes that her son might possibly be working for some mining company in southern Oregon, as he was very fond of such employment. Property Re-zoned At a meeting of the city planning commission In city hall last night, the property for merly known as Riverside park on North Riverside avenue was with drawn from park purposes and re zoned to conditional business zone, class 3. The property Is 310 ft on Riverside avenue and 140 feit deep. Bernard Roberts, president of the planning commission, presided. J. R. Woodford was present as secre tary. No other business was trans acted. Boat Trip Planned Frederick Wagner, publisher of the San Fran cisco Call-Bulletin, and Dick Clancy of Los Angeles plan to make a boat trip down Rogue river from Grants Pass, starting September 5, with Glen Wooldrldge, the well-known fishing guide, stated in a letter today. The two visitors will take colored motion pictures of the entire trip and will show them In Grants Pass upon their return. Mr. Wooldrldge said he would attempt to arrange for the movies to be shown In Medford, also. Twin CalTes Born Walter Smith, a gardener residing on the Blddle road, In the Mldwvy section, re porta one of hts thoroughbred Jersey cows gave birth last Monday to twin calves. Both the cow and offspring are do ing fine. The calves are normally formed, but are slightly smaller than the average. Smith said. County Agent R. Q. Fowler says twin calves are not unusual and several similar cases have been reported tn this county in the past year. Applications Wanted The war department, through the San Fran cisco quartermaster's rone, desires to receive applications from those de siring to become second lieutenants In the quartermaster's reserve corps, as there Is a shortage of officer per sonnel in the grade of second lieu tenant, according to a letter received today by the Jackson County Cham ber of Commerce.
