AUGUST 7, 1938 OUTSTANDING CAST FEATURED: OLIVIA DE HAVILAND STAR "The Adventure of Robin Hood," filmed entirely in Technicolor, opens a three day showing today at the Oraterlan theatre, with Errol Flynn heading a cast of thousands. One of the most important pictures of the year, it has been acclaimed by critics and public as a masterpiece of screen entertainment. The robust adventure, deeds of daring and heroic exploits which have made the story famous through the years, is given lull play on the screen. Set in the year 1190, when the treacherous Prince John was rul ing the country and oppressing the Saxon elements, while his orother Richard was away at the Crusades, the picture opens with a Jousting tournament at Nottingham Castle, where Robin Hood defeats Sir Guy of GlsrJburne and at once becomes Sir Guy's foremost enemy and the Maid Marian's delight. It is then that Robin Hood organ izes his crew of Merry Men and hies away to Sherwood Forest, from which he forays to rob the rich and bestow a third of his takings upon the poor. Constant danger from those who desire to seize the throne when they hear of Rich ard's capture, and much merriment In their forest home, make the lives of Robin Hood's crew an ex citing one. And when they finally besiege Nottingham Castle and over throw Prince John and his fellow conspirators, the picture is brought to a rousing finish. As Robin Hood. Errol Flynn is said to be perfect. Olivia de Hav lland is the Maid Marian; Basil Rath bone portrays Guy of Gls burne: Claude Rains Is Prince John, Patrick Knowlea is Will Scarlet, Eugene, Pallette is the roly-poly Friar Tuck: Alan Hale the lovable Little John. He is known only as El Gato, "The Cat of the Mountains." and his vengeance strikes terror into the hearts of the peon rebels who are ravaging his native land. When he learns that Roslta, his beloved, is being detained at a rebel camp. El Gato races to save her life, and enters the enemy camp as an insurgent general. Excitement ensues as Roslta Is doomed to die, her lover forced to pronounce sentence, and tension mounts to a thrilling climax when the bandit chief discovers that the general- is the famed El Oato. whose name means death to anv rebel. As the added feature on the twin bill, the Rialto has Glenda Farrell and Barton MacLane in "'Prison Break." MacLane is shown as a tuna-fisher man who assumes the burden of another mans crime and is sen- tenccd to San Quentln. For his heroic share in the suppression of a murderous prison riot and whole sale jall-brenk. he is paroled. But imprisonment has left Its mark and honest employment Is something he is unable to secure. How his prob lem is finallv solved marks the cli max of the story. Sheriff George R. Houx testified more than 200 Uunters In the vicin ity at the time of the tragedy were quizzed without result. Denhard's body was found at the foot of a tree.
