Builders took out permits for roundly
13,159,000 worth of new structures
In the Pacific coast's 10 largest cities
In July, the Associated Press monthly
survey showed today.
This substantial figure showed In
creases .over both the preceding
month and the like 1937 month.
Residential building hit a new high

July was the first month to show

The actual gain of 3.4 per cent
over June, added to the expected
drop of 13 per cent, produced a gain
of some 16 per cent over what the
preceding month had Indicated
would be realized,
Permits issued In Los Angeles, Ban
Francisco. Seattle, Portland, Snn
Diego, Oakland, Long Bench, Sacra
mento. Spokane and Tacoma ranked
the cities In that order for the
month, measured by dollar value.

month's aggregate. Portland climbed
to 4th from 8th place, and San
