shooting champions of the Pacific
contt started official practice for
the eighth annual Grand Pacific
trspshooting tournament at the Port
land Qua club today.
Munitions wore numerous enough
to outfit a medium -sized "Incident"
and gunners Included men capable
of handling them.
On tho practice range today were
Earnest Cars ten, 10, Camlno, Calif.,
holder of the California state title;
Al Brundlge, Reno, Nov., state tltllnt,
and William Powell, Reno, handicap
champion.

Scores Yesterday
. UKIAH, Calif., July 30. (AP) Heat which reached 113 degrees al
most prostrated Adam Ziegler. BIS -year -old hiker, but he rested and
started out afresh today on hU 480 -mile bike from Ban Francisco to
Oranta Pass, Ore.
Ziegler reached the Mendocino
county line at 0:21 o'clock last night
after trotting along while the ther- I
mometer climbed, but he managed to
average tlx miles an hour.
The hiker rested three hours at
Cloverdale last night. He was met at
the county line by Don Mac 11 Ulan
director of the Mendocino county
chamber of commerce.
Hopland, 20 miles south, gave Zieg
ler a rousing reception. Mel Rows,
Hopland, fell Into step beside Zleglei
and accompanied him here, arriving
at 6:40 a. m. today.
W. P. Whitney of Wllllta, secretary
of the Mendocino county chamber of
commerce, greeted Ziegler and plan
ned to accompany him to the Hum
boldt county line.
Ziegler was scheduled to rest four
hours here but he postponed the rest
until he reached Willi ts, 35 miles
north, where he was to halt for three
hours In the middle of the day be
cause of the extreme heat.

TEAM GRAPPLE
The long - awaited team match,
which features the opening wrestling
program under the stars at the blgh
school stadium next Monday night,
will pit a pair of mean lea against one
meanle and one clean and scientific
performer. Bockeye Jack McDonald
and Polish Palooka Joe Smollnskl,
members of the meanle team, have
never received plaudit for their le
gltlmate mat tactics, and the aamc
can be said, with a few reservations,

lone grappler of the quartet who de
pends entirely on orthodox maneu

The two team will wrestle four

three-minute rest period will occur
when one team obtains two tumbles,
and the match will end when four,
falls are garnered by either ot the
teams.
Benny Wilson of Texas and All
Pasha of Hindustan will claah in
the opening attraction, going six 10

Sympathy Strike
On Safeway Ends
PORTLAND, July 20. (AP) A
sympathy strike, against 70 Safeway
stores was ended yesterday when of
fice workers, butchers and bakers re
turned to work voluntarily.
They struck in sympathy when the
grocery clerk's union called a walk
out lost week, but returned because
of a blanket contract with the Safe
way organization.
The A.P.L. teamsters' union re
fused to recognize the walkout and
made Vegular food deliveries.

fnt man, died today In his quarters
at a carnival here.
Phy.Mctans said death was due to
disorders arising from his excessive
weight.
Webb, who was 32, had traveled
with circuses and carnivals since tho
nge of three, when he weighed ISO
pounds. He was a native of Altooua,
Pa.
