SHANGHAI, July 5. T!ie JP
anne army, which in a ye&r'i fight
ing has crashed It way 45f miles
up the "Yangtze river into the heart
of China, established posit tors today
for another major effort to reach
Hankow, provisional capital of Gen
eralissimo Chiang Kai-Shek's govern
ment. The Japanese command announced
today the capture of Hukow, 160
miles from the China capital and i
principal barrier to the Japanese ad
vance. Chinese withdrew, leaving
munitions supplies, and there was
little fighting after Japanese pierced
Hukow's outer defenses, military of
ficials said.
Occupation of the city put the
Japanese In position for a Hankov
offensive along two possible routes,
both extremely difficult.
The one choice was a 150-mlle
drive up the Yangtze river, winding
through a mountainous area with
its strong Chinese defenses. The
other was a land detour to the west
In an effort to sever the Canton-
Vtankow railroad, disrupt transporta
tion of supplies and force the evacu
ation of Hankow.
Foreign military observers thought
the roundabout route would be the
choice, with the Japanese avoiding a
frontal assault on Hankow.

J. B. Douglas, Liquidating Engineer
, Seldom, if ver, have the people of this community had the unusual opportunity to participate in such
a calamity of oiroumatances. This tragic situation has been brought about by unavoidable measures of
too personal a nature to be published; however these TREMENDOUS PRICE REDUCTIONS should
prove to you the seriousness of this situation by studying the price reductions on each oar, and the
long, easy terms to fit any one 's budget as outlined below. Any one oan read between the lines and
know that such sacrifices oan only be made under dire financial stress. As LIQUIDATOR IN CHARGE
my feelings in this situation are purely impersonal. My job here is to liquidate this beautiful stock of
automobiles regardless of financial losses to the sponsor of this PUBLIO BANK SALE. There is only
one way for me to do this quickly as demanded by my appointee; give big price reductions, very,
very liberal trade-in allowances to make the necessary down payment (your present car need not be
all paid for) and special long, easy terms as outlined below for this PUBLIO BANK SALE EVENT.
Beleot your car from this list by marking X opposite the car of your choice. Come early to avoid disap
pointment, and if you do not have all the money handy, come anyway. A small deposit will hold any of
these cars. Let us quote you a deal that will astound you. So come prepared to buy. This PUBLIO
BANK 8ALE is strictly forced liquidation and every car must be sold. All spectators welcomed with,
out the least obligation.
