Overmyer and the latter' slater, Mr. Henry Brown, wre host to more than a score 6f relatives for a western state family reunion and picnic held re cently at Jackson Hot Springs Mem bers of the party were all former residents of North .Dakota and In cluded Mr. and Mrs. Raymond 8. Chllberg and Donna Marie Brand void of Seattle, Mrs. Mae Chllberg of Los Angeles, who were guests of the Overmyers. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie E. Brown and son Russell, of Los Ang eles who were visiting at the home of Mr. Brown's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brown. Also guests of the Overmyers were Mr. and Mrs. Walter 8. Hoater Jr., and daughter Jody. of San Francisco. Medford members of the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Skow and children Laurlen, Bettllou and Eileen, ; Mr. and Mrs. David Nelson and chll- j dren Sharon and Billy, Mr, and Mri. ; Charles Overmyer and Bobby Brown. The reuniting of the group was the first time any of them had been together for more than 18 years. Portlander Guest At Dean Residence The Misses Phoebe and Ann Dean, daughters of Dr. and Mrs. George B. Dean, returned to Medford yester day from Portland where they had visited for the past two weeks. While In the northern city they were house guests of Miss Peggy Lou Smith at her home on Oswego lake, Miss Smith returned to Medford with the Misses Dean and will remain here for a fortnight visiting at the Dean's residence on the Jacksonville high way. The girls will Join the younger social set here In their many enjoy able activities. Medford Residents Leave for Week-End Many Medford residents are leav ing today for the Fourth of July holidays, favorite vacationing places Including Lake of the Woods, Dia mond lake. Crater lake and other recreational spots, are luring them away from the olty. Several large nouse parties are oeing new at Lake of the Woods. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perl and ohlldren, Marianne and Billy will spend the week end at the Perl cabin at Rooky Point. They will take with them guests Including Miss Dorothy Nyawaner, Mr. Harry GUI and Master Jerry Hunter. Mr. and Mm. W. H. Reichstein and Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Newman and families will go to their Lake of the Woods summer home. Santa Rosa Guests Here Mr, and Mrs. Vernon Garrett of Santa Rosa. Calif., arrived In Med ford todny to spend several days vis iting. The oouple will be guests of Mr. Garrett's mother, Mrs. O. C. Reichstein Return From Eastern Trip Mr. and Mrs! W. H. Reichstein re turned to their home here on Myrtle street recently from an eastern va cation. The couple visited friends in De troit, Chicago and other cities. In Lansing, Mich., they purchased a new car and drove west, going through the Canadian route. The Relchstelna were away three weeka. Medford Women Visit Ashland Mrs. Blanche M. Taylor and Mrs Emma Vorry of this city are spend ing a few days visiting in Ashland. Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Vorry are houneguests of the latter's daughter. Oregon Resorts, E VARIETY OF RECREATION FOR Ambitious Programs Planned in Nearby City Celebra tions Mountain, Lake Resorts Are Prepared Southern Oregon resorts were pre pared today to handle the greatest holiday throng of recent years over the Fourth of July week-end. With a three-day holiday affording an unusual opportunity to got away from business and home cares, a heavy exodus of Rogue valley city dwellers to mountain, lake and sea shore resorts Is anticipated. And recroation seekers will have much to choose from this Fourth of July. Despite cloudiness and a trifling amount of rain this morn ing, the hot, dry weather of recent weeks Is counted upon to send thous ands to the cool, verdant and re freshing recreation centers of moun tain and forest. To those who aro eager to escape from the noise and bustle of cities and the Jostling crowds of Fourth of July celebra tions, the sylvan retreats offer an attractive lure. Colorful Celebrations On the other hand cities near and far are offering colorful celebrations for thoso who procure their greatest enjoyment from crowds Imbued with a holiday spirit. Ashland, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls and Weed and Crescent City. Cal are all staging two or three-day Fourth of July cele brations that are expected to attract thousands of visitors. On the eve of the three-day cele bration period, police and forest serv ice officials emphasized the need of extreme caution to avert traffic, fire works and water accidents and forest fires. Travelers and celebrants were asked to cooperate fully in a concert ed effort to prevent sudden death, maiming accidents and destruction bj fire. Only by everyone assuming ( ,rs ' I I mi ml -YET COS' a personal responsibility can a com plete safety record be established over the Fourth, the authorities counselled the public. Weather Favorable Normal expectations are for clear, hot weather over the holiday period, possibly with 1 oe all sed thunder storms In the high altitudes. No or flclal forecast, however, was available today. As In past years a particularly large attendance is expected at Cra ter Lake national park and the Ore gon caves. Both have made special provision for the entertainment of guests. Additional parking areas have been carved out of the snow at Crater lake and augmented staffs have been arranged for the checking stations to facilitate the flow of cars. The north entrance road to Diamond lake will be open for travel and the public trail to the edge of Crater lake will be ready for use. Open ing of the trail will make It pos sible to use the launch service for sightseeing trips around the lake and the rowboat service for fishing. As an added holiday attraction special talks will be given at the Sinnott memorial. Caves Popular Place Fourth of July la always a gala occasion at Oregon caves, high mark in attendance being recorded last year when nearly 2,000 persons made the trip through the caverns In two days. An even larger attendance Is anticipated this year and plans have been made accordingly to accommo date the visitors. Feature of the celebration at the caves will be the evening campflre program which has been growing steadily In popularity. This year a number of patriotic numbers will be added to the vocal and Instru mental features of the campfire pro gram and all visitors are invited to linger at the caves and sit around the big campflre for the nocturnal celebration. As In past years this feature Is expected to attract many residents from Medford and Grants Pass. Ijiko of Woods Prepares Of the lake resorts Lake of the Woods Is presenting the most ambi tious program ever attempted. Pre liminary festivities wilt Include danc ing on Saturday and Sundcy even ings, A handicap motorboat regatta will be started Sunday and completed Monday, the main event to be held at 1 p. m. Monday. A 24-lnch silver cup will go to the winner, with other prizes listed for various events. TWINS City Celebrations Beckon Holiday Throngs A special event will be row-boat races for boys between 14 and 18. cash prizes to be awarded. If enough entries are procured, a similar event will be staged for girls between 10 and 20, also for cash prizes. The fisherman catching the largest black bass In Lake of the Woods dur ing the holiday week-end will re ceive a cash award. Catches must be reported to the resort office where complete records will be kept. The contest will close at 4:00 p. m. July 4, so that the prize may be awarded as part of the celebration. All roads to Lake of the Woods are said to be In good condition. The lake water has warmed up sufficient ly to make swimming a dally diver sion. Diamond Lake Popular While no special celebration has been announced for Diamond lake, this gem of the mountains Is ex pected to attract hundreds of city residents in search of a tranquil rest. Many fishermen also are expected, the lake affording excellent angling, according to latest returns. The drive to the lake from Medford la consid ered one of the most beautiful In the state. The lake resort Is prepared to provide every convenience for guests. Increasing consistently In popular ity. Dead Indian Soda springs is ex pected to lure a large number of discriminating visitors who go in for specialized recreation. Attractions are the pure mountain air and par ticularly the soda water which Is free to all guests. Swimming In a tank Is a free diversion for camp ground or cabin guests. Fishing is described as fair and there are in teresting trips for those who like to hike and explore out-of-the-way places. Ashland Is staging Its annual gi gantic Fourth of July celebration July 3 and 4. The program Includes band and organ concerts, commun ity song feat, swimming and other 1 sports, paradeB, soap box derby, chil dren's contests, carnival, baseball, dancing, diving exhibitions, bathing beauty contest and a special wrest ling card with Promotor Mack Lll lard as Impresario. Climax will be a spectacular display of fireworks which will follow immediately after the wrestling matches Monday night. O. P. To Celebrate A similar celebration will be held In Grants Pass Saturday, Sunday and Monday. For those who prefer to get farther away from home, there will be gigantic celebrations also during the three-day holiday in Klamath Falls, Crescent City and Weed. A rodeo will feature the Klamath Falls celebration, with 94500 to be distrib uted as prizes. For those who like to retreat to sylvan dells, the , Rogue River na tional forest offers many Improved campgrounds where picnicking and camping may be enjoyed to the ut most. At the improved campgrounds no campflre permits are required. Improved campgrounds include: Applegate district Cook & Green, McKee Bridge, Beaver-Sulphur, Car berry, Yale and Hutton. Butte Falls district South Fork, Nicholas Creek, Upper South Fork and Wickiup. Lake of the Woods district Willow Springs, Rainbow. White Pine, Aspen Point and Spruce, all at Lake of the Woods, and Annie Creek, Fish Lake, North Butte Creek, Dead Indian Soda Springs, South Butte Creek and Beaver Dsm. Union Creek district Woodruff Meadows, Natural Bridge, Union Creek, Farewell Bend, Mulr Creek, Hamaker Meadows, Foster Creek and Minnehaha. - Apple Market WDNATCHEE, Wash. ryp India la a great potential market for American apples.
