PAGE THREE Society and Clubs By Clara Mary Davis Miss Eathel Jones Married Sunday To Glen Stewart At a beautiful ceremony held Sun day at 2 o'ctock at St. Mark's Epis copal church, Mies Eathel Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Jones of Medford, became the bride of Mr. Glen Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Logan Stewart of Portland. Fattier Ernest S. Bartlam officiated In the ring service. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a navy blue dress trim med In white and white accessories. She carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley, white sweet peas and sweetheart rowbuds. The Drlde's only attendant. Miss Mildred Buckles, wore a becoming blue ensemble and a corsage of yellow and pink rose buds. Candles and spring flowers decoratod the altar. Dr. Russell Jones, brother of the bride, acted es best man for Mr. ' Stewart. The bride's mother wore a gown of printed blue chiffon and an orchid corsage t Mrs. Stewart, mother of the bridegroom, wore a dark blue ensemble and a gardenia corsage. The couple left Immediately after the ceremony for a wedding trip to Oregon beaches and Victoria, B. C. They will make their home in Med ford, after July 8. Mr. Stewart Is a graduate of Med ford high school, hla family livlug formerly resided in this city. He is associated with the Medford corpo ration. Out-of-town guests attending the wedding Included the bridegroom's parents, the bride's sister. Miss Eva Jones of ' San Francisco, and her brother, Dr. Russell Jones, Portland, Ore. Court of Awards Special Program For Girl Scouts The special Girl Scout court of honor will be held out of doors at the city park playground, Wednes day evening from 8 to 7 o'clock. Closing singing, "Oh Beautiful Banner," Girl Scout Promise. f Venita Gardner Has , Birthday Party On Sunday afternoon at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. W, L. Gardner, little Venita Gardner cele ' brated her fifth birthday with an enjoyable birthday party. During the afternoon Miss Gard ner's small guests had refreshments and played games. The highlight of the affair was a trip to the Medford airport. Miss Venita was the recip ient of many lovely presents. Children present for the festivities were the Misses Maryllan Mayers. Sammle Lee Smith, Beble MUlsap, Alison Campbell, Harriet Campbell and Master Richard Hanson. Mrs. Gilbert Here For Brief Visit Mrs. Clyde Gilbert arrived In Med ford recently to spend a few days visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Janes, at their home on Capi tal Hill. Mrs. -Gilbert resides In Viola. Calif near Redding. She and Mr. Gilbert are owners of the Viola resort. She expects to return to her home there Wednesday. Dinner Party At Chateau Enjoyed Friday Evening A group of Medford's younger set gathered Friday evening for a no host dinner and dancing party held at the Chateau. Prior to dinner, a cocktail affair was held at the George M. Roberts home on Crown Hill. Enjoying the evening were Miss Leah Inch, Mr. Tom Emmens, Miss Barbara Sheldon, Mr. Dtck Reum, Mr. Chauncey Brewer, Miss Helene Salade. Miss Dorothy Roberts, Mr. Allyn Monroe, Mrs. Robert Maenta. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Westergren of Grants Pass, Mr. and Mrs. John Day, Mr. James Hayes, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. William Cunningham. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barnes, and Mr. Dick Shearer. Lions Delegate Return F rom State Convention Delegates and guests attending the State Lions convention at Wallowa Lake resort In Enterprise. June 19, 30 and 31, returned to Medford tast week. Those making the trip were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Marti, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Runtz, Mr. and Mrs. Mi chael Beck and daughters. La Mcrl Beck Witt and DeAnn Beck, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Pennington and Mr. Eston Humphrey. Delegates divided the state Into three districts, electing A. L. Haun of Engene, president of one; Lions International are to appoint two. Mrs. George Davis was elected presi dent of the auxiliary; Mrs. Graham Kiltam, first vice-president; Mrs. Harry Scott, second vice-president, Mrs. Oscar Shepherd, Grants Pass, third vice-president, and Mrs. Fred Hellbronner of Klamath Falls, secretary-treasurer. A distinguished guest was Frank V. Birch, president of Lions Interna tional of Milwaukee, Wis. La Merke Beck Witt was presented on the program Sunday evening in several vocal numbers, and her sis ter, De Ann Beck, entertained with a dance number. It was the consensus that this convention was the best ever held, the cowboy breakfast on Tuesday morning being the highlight of the entertainment. The next convention will be held In Salem. Mrs. James Firth At Kirtland Farm Mrs. James Firth and young son, David, of Crescent City. Calif., ar rived In Medford recently and are visiting Mrs. Firth's grandmother, Mrs. A. L. Withington at Kirtland Farm near Central Point. Mrs. Firth wilt remain here until the Fourth of July, at which time she will.be Joined by Mr. Firth and return to her home on the coast. She was accompanied to Medford by Harold Arthur, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Arthur of Crescent City, who are frequent visitors . In this city. Master Arthur will spend a few days visiting at the farm. Rotary Group Returns Here Medford residents attending the Rotary International convention held in San Francisco, Calif., returned to their respective hQmes here over the week-end. Convention reports wilt be given at this time and refreshments served following the session. ft Picnic Supper At Gold Hill Sunday A picnic was enjoyed Sunday after noon at the home of Walter McLaln In Gold Hill, the occavn being a surprise birthday party far Mr. Mc Laln. Following the lawn dinner, a pleas ant time was had singing and en Joying music with Frank Thompson playing the piano. Present at the party were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. McColerter of Ashland; Mrs. M, Patee of Detroit, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. N. S. Young, Mr. W. G. Trill. Mr. and Mrs. R. Richardson and Mr and Mrs. McLaln. The group plans to have many more picnic affairs during the sum mer months Fabrick Home Scene of Party A pleasant Sunday evening affair was held at the home of Mrs. Mar garet Fabrick on Crater Lalce ave nue, when Mrs. Paul Selby and Miss Marjorie Kelly were co-hostesses for a cocktail party. Fifty guests called between the hours of 5 to 7 o'clock. The rooms were attractive with bouquets of spring flowers. The table, with trays of colorful canapes, was appointed with a large white vase of mixed flowers and a beautiful white lace cloth. Herrings Have House Guest Mrs. Wilhelmina Herring arrived In Medford Sunday evening from Tacoma, Wash. She Is the house guest of her son and daughter-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur IS. Her ring, at their home on King street Mrs. Herring will visit here for a week before returning to her home In Walla Walla, Wash. According to the stata policeman one of the brothers, while being questioned, struck him In the mouth with his fist and fled, ignoring com mands to halt. The incident occurred last week. Ray Vinson of the Butte Falls dis trict, charge d with hitting his father-in-law. John N. Wisdom, In the forehead with a hammer dur ing a dispute, was granted a sus pended sentence of one year. The father-in-law requested that leniency be shown. Alameda Bazon of Chlloquin, Wat kins Davis of Beatty and Owen Mc Caffcry of Klamath Falls were each fined $10 and costs for being drunk on a public highway. The first two are Indians. McCaffery claimed they had picked him up and were driving him to Klamath Falls. SETTLE CAR SUIT The damage suit of C. D. Vroman against Louis J. Upp, scheduled For trial today In circuit court has been settled out of court. The suit grew out of an accident at North Central avenue and Fourth street, over n 5 ear ago. Vroman In the first trial sought damages for alleged Injuries received, when three cars, driven by Upp and Vroman, and another man collided. In the first trial, no award was given, and the caso vu appealed to the state supreme court, which or dered a re-hearing. The suit of Con R. Newbury and wife against C. T. Steward and wife for 93000 alleged damages, la sched uled to start Wednesday In circuit court. The action involves a concroto wall between the residences of tho litigants In East Medford.
