Edgar Hoover, chief of the federal
bureau of Investigation, took charge
of the James Bailey Cash. Jr.. kid
naping case today while small boats
and dlvera augmented a huge posse
combing this area In the rain for a
trace of the 5-year-old victim
Arriving at Miami from Washing
ton, Hoover hastened Immediately to
the FBI offlee in a downtown sky
scraper where agents have been ques
tioning several suspects for 24 hours,
He refused, like his subordinates, to
discuss the case and Indicated ne ex
pected to be here several days.-
Hundreds of men In khaki veterans
uniforms and hunting togs, many
with pistols at their belts, assembled
at dawn and were taken out In farm
trucks to the sectors assigned for the
second day of the search.
The hunt was extended northward
through palmetta thickets, weeds and
flat truck farm land.
The senior Cash and his. wife re
mained secluded In their frame apart
ment building, although the father
came to the door to receive three tele
grams. It was learned that the anguished
mother, who had been prostrate with
grief, finally was sleeping.

Hellen. Next meeting will be held
June 15 at the home of Mrs. Jobn
C. Greb. assisted by Mrs. Louisa Greb.

given by the Medford high school or
chestra and glee clubs in the senior
high school auditorium, Mny IB.

have a very elaborate program at its

folks played games and sang while
the older people were visiting, and
an enjoyable time was had.

Members of Antelope Union Sunday
school are sorry Darrel Stanley has
been unable to attend for several
weeks because of Illness. It Is hoped
he will soon regain his health.
Daily vacation Bible school will open
tomorrow for two weeks, at Antelope
schoolhouse, with Misses Verna and
Beth Cingcade and Almeta Day teach
ing the classes, All young people and

Brownsboro to swim in Butte creek.

calving master degrees at the gradu
ation exereiws at the University of
Orption In Eugene last week.
Miss Demmer. daughter of Mrs. Lily
S. Demmer of 609 West Jackson boule
vard, received her bachelor of arts
degree from the university several
years ago. She was awarded her mas
ter's degree with honors. Her major
wa Spanish and her thesis. "A Fre
quency study of the Third Person
Object Pronouns in the Don Quijote."

for an extended visit in Maine. She
will return to Medford in time for
school In the fall and will aealn be

tivities, is a director of the Jackson
County Chamber of Commerce and

STATEMENT BY ROSS
PORTLAND, Ore.. June 2. (API
D. B. Dodson. chamber of commerce
official, challenged a statement at
tributed to J. D. Ross, Bonneville
dam administrator, at Washington
that power from the dam had been
oversubscribed.
In a telegram to the federal power
commission, Dodson declared that "It
appears to us that no bon fide ap
plication could be made for power
until rates and conditions for pur
chases are known. We have no evi
dence here of any bona fide applica
tion and would appreciate such in
formation .
