Carlisle Crouch, chief ranger of Crater Lake national park, transacted business here today. He came to Medford this morning with Mrs. Crouch and their young son Jimmy. The family was to return to the lake resort tonight. Special Meeting Jackson County Chamber of Commerce board of direc tors will hold a special luncheon meeting In the Hotel Medford at noon tomorrow. L Bummer vacation travel began in earnest over the Decoration Day week-end, it was indicated by re ports received today from recrea tion centers tn southern Oregoa The tourist travel was substantially augmented over the long week-end by a general exodus of residents from Rogue valley cities. More than 300 cars were registered at Crater Lake national park Sun day, only a slightly smaller num ber being recorded at the famed re sort yesterday, It was stated by J. Carlisle Crouch, chief ranger who came to Medford on business today. The McKee Bridge and Beaver Sulphur campgrounds in the Apple gate district of the Rogue River na tional forest were taxed to capacity both Sunday and Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reed of Jacksonville have opened a store across the road from the McKee bridge campground where picnickers may now procure groceries, refreshments and motor car fuel and lubrleants. Pishing and boating attracted a crowd to Fish lake each day of the holiday period. Angling also was a popular aport on most of the streams and at all of the accessible lakes. Especially good results were obtained at Squaw lake, the United Statea forest service reported. Many valley residents spent the holiday at their summer cabins on rivers and lakes, the Union Creek area being one of the popular spots. Mr. Crouch said conditions were at their boat for sight -seeing at Cra ter lake. Tourist travel already has reached substantial proportions, most of the week-day visitors coming from out of state, he said.
