Garden Inspection
Is Premier Event
On Social Agenda
The leading event on this week's
soclsJ calender will be the tour of
Telle? gardens on Wednesday. Thla
is an annuel affair of the Medford
Garden club and this year, more than
ever before. It Is being anticipated
as a most Interesting end pleasant
event.
Mrs. Alfred Carpenter Is general
chairman of the tour. Each garden
open for visit and Inspection hss
been specially named and at each
home an assistant hostess will be
present. Red pennants will Indicate
the nearest approach to the various
gardens and a reception committee
will be present at the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce from 8 to 10
o'clock In the morning and from 1
to 3 o'clock In the afternoon to direct
callers to the different places.
An outstanding feature of Garden
Day will be the tea at the home of
Mrs. Oeorge Roberts on crown mil
from i to S o'clock. This affair will
bring to a close the day's activities.
Wednesday morning from 0 to 1
o'clock the west side of town will be
visited and the following gardens will
be offered for Inspection: home of

Grants Pass Rites
A wedding of special Interest took
place at Grants Pass on Modday aft
ernoon, May 10, when Joan Leland
charming daughter of Mrs. Prances
Leland of this city, became the brldi
of Prank James Beers at a simple
ring ceremony at the Metliodlst
Eplscopal parsonage In that city
Only the Immediate relatives of the
couple were present.
Mrs. Beers is well known In Med
ford, having moved here from Arl
zona eight years ago with her mothei
and brother, Gilbert Leland. She Is
a graduate of the Medford high
school and is very popular with the
younger set here.
The groom came to Medford a year
ago from Portland and Is a member
of the state police force. He attended
University of Oregon, where he was
member of Sigma Chi fraternity,
and also attended Eastern Oregon
Normal. 1 '
Immediately following the cere
mony the couple left by motor for
Portland and points north. They will
return to Medford about June 1 and
will make their home here.

snowballs and coral bells.

at the Baldwin Piano shoppe, the
Medford Music club wlU present Jo.
sephlne Albert Spauldlng, mezzo-soprano,
in concert.
Mrs. llpauldlng la considered one
of the outstanding singers in the
Northwest, she has appeared as solo
ist with the Portland Symphonic or
chestra under the direction of Wil
liam Von Hoogstraten on several oc
casions. In 1913 Mrs. Spauldlng wa
a Music Federation contest winner for
the state of Oregon and again for the
Pacific Northwest, and represented
the Paclflo Northwest in the national
contests at Minneapolis.
This talented mezzo-soprano haa
pleasant personality, a large reper
tlore and delights In pleasing her au
di encee with many and varied selec

Plans for attending summer school
at Corvallis were discussed by the
Stltch-ln-Ttme club at Its meeting,
May 14, at the home of Mrs. Albert
Bigham. with Delia Blgham acting aa
hostess.
Plans were also made for making
small articles to be sold at next lnont-
lng of the Ladles' Social club.
Only four members of the club
were present, spending the afternoon
working on their projects.
Following business meeting, refresh
ments were served by the hostess.
Next meeting will be at the home of
Mrs. Luther Day, May 28, with Alice
Day assisting her mother as hostess.
