Another resolution endorsed "any legislation pertaining to restricted Im migration, rjandatory deportation and prohibiting of employment of aliens In the federal government." Mrs. Bess Duncan Wells, Portland, Ore., was elected president. She suc ceeds Mrs. Horace B. Blake of Phila delphia. Other officers chosen Included Mrs. Elisabeth Lambert Wood, Portland, Or., committeeman. Mayor Joseph K. Carson of Port land, Ore., commended the mothers for their "opposition to all Isms." 0. AND C. TIMBER SALE IS DECREED WASHINGTON, May 13. (P) The Interior department announced today It would sell 36,316,000 board feet ot timber along the Oregon and Cali fornia railroad and Coos Bay wagon oad In western Oregon, to keep the lumber mills operating In the region during the next two or three months. The emergency sale, made pending th adoption of permanent adminis trative regulations for the former grant lands will be made through the general land office. Bids for the purchase of the timber will be re ceived at the land office In Rose burg. Ore., at 10 a. m., Thursday, May 19. Secretary Ickes said the sale would provide employment for approximate ly 3,000 workers for the next 80 days. 1 . Special features of the program will Include the combined chorus of 600 voices, the combined string ensemble of 80 pieces under the direction of John Knight and a group folk dance. Pour Into a but tered ring mold. Bake for as min utes In a pan of hot water In a mod erate oven. Let stand for five minutes. Unmold. Surround with creamed veg etables. Macaroon Delight 4 egg yolks oup granulated sugar 4 tablespoons flour 3 cups milk 14 teaspoon lemon extract teaspoon almond extract 1 teaspoon vanilla teaspoon salt 1 cup broken macaroons Bat yolks. Add sugar and flour. Mix well and add milk. Cook In a double boiler until thick and creamy. Stir frequently. Add rest of lngredl ents and pour Into a shallow buttered baking dish. Cover with merlneue. Meringue 4 egg whites cup granulated sugsr 4 cup shredded almonds teaspoon almond extract Beat whites until stiff. Add sugar and beat until creamy. Add rest of In gredients. Stanley, Eugene grocer who has been a leader In the fight against the new antt'prlce discrimination bill in Oer gon. announced today that for the present he would abandon his fight to hive the law referred to the vot- into effect today. Stanley asserted that the law would have been referred to the voters at the coming primary elections had It not been for a typographical error in copies of the law attached to the referendum petitions. Earl Snell, sec retary of state, had okayed the refer endum petitions, Stanley asserted, when backers of the law discovered the error In printing and enjoined Snell from putting the question on the primary ballots. May 18. )P The management of the principal rail roads of the country notified em ployes today It Intends to redue basic wages IS percent on July 1. "This action." the statement said, "Is compelled by conditions now con fronting the rsilroad industry. We wish the public and the railroad em ployes to know what those conditions are, because both the national wel fare and the welfare of railroad men are necessarily dependent upon the welfare of the basic transportation Industry of the country." Spokesmen for the railway brother hoods have announced they will not accept any reduction, and that the wage controversy eventually will oe placed before the national mediation board. The railroads now employ slightly fewer than a million workers. It has been estimated a IB percent reduc tion would amount to $350 900.000 annually. GEN. (AP) Mayor Florello LaGuardla of New York will visit Oregon this summer to ank the state to participate In the New York world fair next year. Oregon withdrew several weeks ago following a dispute over a site. Mayor Joseph Carson of Portland telegraphed from the east that La Guardla "hopes negotiations will be resumed as Oregon Is too important to be omitted."
