MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON. FRIDAY. MAY 13, 1938. PAIGE THREE IN 3-AGT COMEDY Walter Ben Hare three -act com dy, "A Little Clodhopper," presented by cast of the Young Ladles' and Young Men's Catholic clubs, last eve ning In the auditorium of St. Mary's Academy, was well received by an appreciative audience who were con stantly In a state of laughter during the entire performance. The cast consisted of Mary Morris ey, lead, with Gene Monaco playing opposite. Warren Loffer, Ted Nave, Catherine Porter field, Jeoes Jensen and La Vonne Mills. In supporting rotes .were Paul Sakraida, Helen McDonald, Elsie Oliver and Jeannette McKee. Splendid talent was shown by Miss Morrlsey as "the little clodhopper", the poor farm rascal. Oene Monaco as the high-powered book salesman carried the role with ease and was quite the favorite of the audience, as handsome heroes usually are. War ren Loffer as the farm hand Ocey Gump fitted the role perfectly, as did Miss Jensen portraying the man crazy old maid who sets her cap for Ocey and finally wears him down to the point of matrimony. Miss Porter field's presentation of Mrs. Chlgger-son-Boggs, the dominating mother was excellent. She dominated every one but particularly her delicate son, George, In which rote Ted Kave was outstanding. In acting the spoiled and helpless young man bo proved himself more the professional than the amateur. C harm! an Carter, George's movie act ress fiance was played In professional manner by La Vonne Mills. Prior to the opening of the "Little Clodhopper" a delightfully absurd pantomime titled "The Lamp Went Out", was given by the following cast, Charles Morrlsey, Lewell Dupray, John Wilkinson. Paul Sakraida and Gene Monaco. Between scenes EMsebe Dal lalre rendered piano selections. The entire program will be given again this evening, starting at 8 o'clock. It la expected that the play ers will present even a more finished showing In this final performance -4- 10 Holme Bishop, president of the Associated Farmers of California, will address a meeting of the Associated Farmers of Jackson County at a meeting In the courthouse auditor ium at 8 p. m. Fire late yesterday afternoon dam aged the garage and a car at 30 Tripp street. Origin of the blaz could not be determined though It might have started spontaneously from an oil-soaked rag. Chief Roy Elliott re ported. The fire started in a corner of the garage, he said. Art Brenner Is the occupant of the property and owner of the car. The property Is owned by Dora Lane of Lakevlew. The Brenners were not at home. The paint, windows and windshield of the car were oilned and the roof and corner of the garage were burned. Firemen pulled the car out of the blazing garage, being handicapped In saving the automobile because It was left in gear and with the band brake on. Chief Elliott said. He advised owners to leave their cars with the brakes off and out of gear so that they can be pulled out more readily In case of fire. Beginning ' Sunday ' all residents must turn off faucets and taps when ever the fire alarm Is sounded, the chief stated. When the fire is out, the whistle will be blown to signal that the water may be turned on again. This la necessary In summer months, he explained, because the great consumption of water for do mestic use reduces the pressure to a dangerously low level, and full pres sure Is required In fighting fires.
