Lindbergh's plana were revealed In a letter to associates who belped him build In an old fish cannery here the "Spirit of St. Louis," the small, single -motored monoplane wblch car ried the then gangling, happy-go-lucky former airmail and barnstorm Ing pilot over the Atlantic ocean. The associates, who chose to re main unidentified, said the famous flier wrote them he would remain In England with his wife, the former Anne Morrow, and his boos, Jon and Land Morrow, born after the kidnap ing and slaying of his first son in 1033, unless America needed him In event of war or other national emerg ency. Lindbergh's letter quashed repeated reports heard since he left America secretly with his family In Decem ber, 1835. that he would renounce his American citizenship for that of British. The glare of publicity turned upon the Lindberghs during the trial In New Jersey of Richard Brttto Haupt mann. later executed as the kldnap- klller of their first born, was blamed for their leaving the country. Avoids Publicity. Lindbergh, who rose from an ob scure aviator to a national figure In the short span of 33' hours which It took htm to fly from Mineola, Long Island, after his takeoff May 30, 1037 to Le Bo urge t airdrome near Paris, has eh untied publicity since he left America. A few months ago. Lindbergh, who has continued bis activity In avia tion and science, made a surprise visit to America with his wife. He said "business' prompted the visit. It was recently reported he purchased an Island off the French coast on which to live In the quiet and seclu sion he desires. Special Airmail Cachet Citizens Are Asked to Help Advertise Area Cere mony to Mark Departure of Plane Next Thursday To be cancelled with Medford's special National Airmail Week cachet. airmail should not be deposited In the central poatoffice before 10:67 Saturday night, It was stated today by Postmaster Prank DeSouza. Regular airmail closes at 10:57 p. m. and anything deposited before that hour must be dispatched on the plane that departs 6 minutes later, Mr. DrSouwi explained. Airmail de posited before that hour, howover, will be held for dispatch Sunday un der Imprint of the special cachet pro. Tided that mail la so marked, he added. A notation "to hold" on the airmail la all that Is required to have It held for cancellation by the spe cial cachet, he related. Jackson County Day Airmail deposited after 10:57 p. m Saturday and airmail deposited earlier but marked "hold" will be concelled by the special cachet. Throughout National Airmail Week May 16 to 31, inclusive, the special cachet will be used. Jackson County Airmail Day wilt be observed next Thursday. A special, officially authorized plane will leave Medford municipal airport at 10:30 a. m., taking airmail from the county end picking up additional airmail at Grant Pass, Roseburg and Cottage Grove for delivery in Portland end dlapntahed from there by regular commercial planes. The special plane will be flown by Thomas A. Culbertson, Jr.. president of the Medford chapter of the Na tional Aeronautic association and member ot the state board of aero nautlcs. Culbertson will be accom panied by A. H. Ban well, manager of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, as a good-will ambassa dor. Ceremony Planned Ceremonies will be held at each ot the cities where the special plane will pick up airmail. , Mayor C. C. Furnas will officiate at the airport ceremony here. He will deliver the mail pounchea to Lorraine Toung, six-year-old daughter of Pos tal Inspector and Mrs. Harold E. Young. The little girl, In turn, will hand the mall bags to Culbertson. The public Is Invited to the airport ceremony. Special automobiles, driv en by postal employes, will converge on the airport from all parts of the county. The cars will pick up air mail from various communities ilivouBhout the county and deliver the Mirks to the special plane. (AP) Marcus Hodges, 78, was found dead yester day afternoon In his apartment. His right wrist had been slashed and pollc hendqunrtera listed the case as suicide. DIES IN J'VILLE Reuben Albert Johnson, a resident of Jacksonville for 14 years, passed away at his home there early this morning. He was born at Bedford, Iowa, Dec. 7. 1801. Bealdes his wife. Louise Johnson, he leaves four sons, Albert, Simon, William and Otto Johnson all of Jacksonville. Also two step-children. Bertha Lamb of Sea side, Ore., and Carl Jensen of Jack sonville. One sister, Alice Schalltlng, resides at Yates. Kansas. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Mallory at the Conger ehapel at 3:00 p.m. Saturday. Inter ment will be In the Jacksonville cemetery.
