Rogue River na tional forest headquarters said to day. From this side motorists csn progress to Willow Prairie, about six miles from the lake, before snow blocks the road, the forest service Bald. Everhard of 631 West Eleventh street, returned on this morning's train from Portland where he has been a patient In the Shrlners hos pital since January. Bruce Is a victim of Infantile paralysis. Latham, Mall Tribune circulation manager, returned by motor car late last night from the 16th annual con vention of the Pacific Northwest em ulation Managers' association at The Dalles. Mr. Latham served on the as sociations membership committee during the past year. He accompanied MUlard Hodgea, circulation manager of the Grants Paas Courier, to the convention. The two traveled to The Dalles via Portland and returned via Bend and Crater lake. The convention devoted much time to discussions of boy welfare work and Increases In newspaper subscription and street sale prices. Most of the newspapers represented In the association In creased prices during the psst year. Mr. Latham said. The association em braces Oregon. Utah. Idaho, Washing ton. On Forest Work Two maintenance crews will go to work in the Rogue River national forest Monday, It was announced by headquarters here. One crew of five men will be assigned to the Pelican guard station area and one of three men will work In the Dead Indian Soda Springs sector. The men. all regular forest employees, will be engaged In trail, road and tele phone line maintenance. Chosen For Navy Selections to fill the May quota for enlistment In the United States navy were announced for this district today by Oeorge E. Patterson, recruiter. The youths chosen are Floyd L. Foster and James R, Grlssom of Grants Pass and Harold O. Blehn of Klamath Falls. They will leave here by train Monday night for Portland where they will be given their final qualifying examinations. If they pass the final testa, they will proceed Immediately to San Diego for three months of preliminary training before being assigned to actual duty Applications for future quotas are now being received by Mr. Patterson at his office In the Medford federal building. To Forest school John Sarglnson. ranger In charge of the Lake of the Woods district of the Rogue River na tional forest, will leave tomorrow night to attend a range management training school near prlnevllle on the Ochocof national forest. The school will open Monday and continue for two weeks. Purpose of the training camp Is to give rsngers a more prac tical grasp of his Job responsibility. A selected group of rsngers from us tional forests of Oregon and Wash lngtop will attend. The- school will be conducted under the direction of A. H. John Hammond, Chicago, charged with larceny from a building, of a purse containing 44 was ordered held to await grand Jury action under ilSOO bonds. The alleged theft oc curred In the office of A. W. IS MEDFORD SET-UP Major General Albert J. Bowley, commanding general of the ninth corps area. Inspected two CCC camps as well as district headquarters dur ing his visit here yesterday. The visit was the first from a corps area commander In two years, and General Bowley'a first appearance here slnoe he assumed command of the ninth corps area late In March. General Bowley was accompanied here by Mrs. Bowley and the general's aide de camp, Captain W. B. Palmer. Major G. R. Owens, commander of the Medford CCC district, met tbe party In Grants Pass yesterday noon and they Inspected Camp Wlmer, near Rogue River, before proceeding to Medford. While here the general In spected Camp Prescott as well as the district -headquarters offices down town and at the fairgrounds. General Bowley expressed his pleasure with conditions as he found them here, and was informed by Colonel Rene Marx, ninth corps area motor trans port Inspector who has been here for the past several days, that the Med ford district's motor equipment la in the best shape of any he has Inspect ed In the, entire ninth corps area. Although maintaining the contrary, officers of the National Catfish Der by association appeared nettled today over the Southern Oregon Humane society's threat to halt a badger fight scheduled as part of the afternoon's entertainment program. President Frank Perl had lost his usually sun ny disposition and noticeably winced when the badger fight was mention ed. Bill Orenbemer, usually most lo quacious of the association executives, was strangely silent. I said yesterday that the whole program would be held as planned." President Perl said, a trifle testily. "I meant Just what I said. In spite of heaven and high water, the badger fight will be held. "It is natural for badgers and dogs to fight and there Is nothing cruel about anything that's natural. They love to fight: It's fun for them. What Is not nstural, however, is for ani mals to perform trtcka.
