PAGE FTTE IN CCC DISTRICT LISTEDJY CHIEF Loss of Only One Camp Is Slated Eight Camps to Close, Four to Be Reoccu pied, Three to Be Opened Tha Medford CCC district will Iom but one company In the summer moves to start soon. It was announc ed today by Major George R. Owens, district commander. The district, one of the blgge.it in the United State, will have a sum mer strength of 31 camps as against the 33 under Med ford administration during the period Just closed. Eight camps now In the district will be closed for the summer, four old camps will be reoccupld and three new camps will be established. Major Owens said. Three companies now In the district will move to other districts and two new companies will come here. Policy Changed The district had beens!ated to lose four companies under a contemplated reduction policy, but when congress voted recently to keep the corps at full strength for the coming year, the reduction program was cancelled and moves now announced are routine summer movements. TShe district at present embraces a total of about 80.000 square miles, running from Eugene, Oregon, to Red Bluff. California, and from the coast to Hart mountain In eastern Oregon. Ninety officers and civilian employees are on duty at headquarters In MM ford, and about 00 officers, surgeons and educational advisors are on duty in the camps along with 6500 men These figures do not include the forest service, park service and other technical agency personnel. Company movements will start soon, although definite dates have not yet been determined. Major Owens said. Three To Move . Three companies now in the dis trict will be moved to camps in other districts of the ninth corps area. They are Co. 996. Camp Big Bar, which will move to Camp Calder In the Sacramento district; Co. 1578. Tula Lake, which will move to Camp Orland, In the Sacramento district; and Co. 6436, Cooa Head, which will move to Camp Nestucca In the Van couver Barracks district. Camps Big Bar. Tule Lake and Coos Head will be closed for the summer. rive companies will move within the district. Co. 488,now at Presoott, will move to Wineglass in the Crater Lake national park; and Co, 6463, now at Oregon Caves, will move to Annie Springs, also at Crater Lake. Co. 919, Camp Salt Creek, will move to Camp Leaf, east of Weed, Calif.: Co. 6445, Camp Big Springs, will move to Halls Flat, a new camp site In northeastern - California. Co. 5484, now at Rand, will move to Diamond Lake. All five of the camps to be vacated will remain closed for the summer. In addition to Halls Plat, two other new camps will be established In the district. One will be at Alkali Lake in eastern Oregon and the other In Douglas county, definite site not yet being named. Two new companies will come here to occupy the camps, one occupying Camp Gunter, near Rom burg, until the new Douglas county camp is built.
