Daubed With Red
PLYMOUTH. Mass.. May 9. (UP)
The historically - famed Plymouth
Rock 'vas painted red during the
night, the caretaker discovered today.
State police were asked by local
police to check fingerprint round
on the paint can. Caretaker John
Scan Ion and Peter Moskos. who us
ually sells popcorn to tourists at the
rock, scrubbed the rock clean with
gasoline.
The rock was supposed to have
been used as a stepping atone when
the Pilgrims landed from the May

Official Plane Dispatch
From Medford May 19th
Arra n gem n t were com pie ted to
day by Postmaster Frank DcSouza for
a special Jackson pick-up service on
Thursday, May 19 when an official
plane will leave here to connect with
Grants Pass, Roseburg. Cottage Drove
and Portland as part of National Air
mail Week observance.
The special pick-up service will
give each locality of the county an
opportunity to dispatch airmail on
tha author, ?1 flight. Mr. DcSouza
explained. The airmail thus plckd
up will be brought to Medford and
dispatched on the special plane leav
ing the municipal airport at 10:30 a.
m.
Medford and several other Jackson
county cities will have special cach
ets for cancelling all outgoing airmail
during National Airmail Week. Mny

cancelled with Med ford's If they so
desire, Mr. DeSouza stated.

their airmail conveyed to the nearest
pick-up point for delivery to the spe

sentence in state prison on a plea of
guilty to larceny of goods ' belonging

urday. According to Sheriff Syd I.
Brown. Travera wept most of the way
and steadfastly proclaimed his Inno
cence. Travera had a previous prison
record, the district attorney reported
to the court.
Archie Ewlng, reputed member of
a prominent Nebraska family, sen
tenced to two and one-half years for
check forgeries, committed In the
summer of 1937. accepted his fate
philosophically, said the sheriff, who
transported the two prisoners to
Salem.
