Flying North O. Huntington. Los Angeles business man, left Medford municipal airport this morning In his Falrchlld plane for Eugene. He ar rived late yesterday afternoon from Bedding, Cal. Shop to Open The Beverage shop 134 South Central avenue, closed 'nee the first of the year, will be reopened tomorrow under new man agement. The new owners are R. L. Lanta and H. R. Turpln. The shop will be managed by Mr. Turpln and J. T. Woolfolk. who was previously employed In the shop. A complete line of wines, beers, mixers and deli catessen will be carried, Mr. Turpln said. Mothers' Day Visitors Mrs. Eliza beth Young of 404 West 6th street and Mrs. K. D. Ross of 1012 Queen Anne avenue left by motorcar this afternoon for the north to spend Mother's Day with their children. Mrs. Ross will visit her son, Bill porter, at the University of Oregon In Eugene, and Mrs. Young will be the guest of her daughter. Miss Pa tricia Young, at Oregon State college In Corvallls. 4 Field Trip Southern Oregon Gem and Mineral society will hold a field trip Sunday under leadership of I. C. gftley. Members are to assemble at trie Jackson County Chamber of Com merce at 9 a. m., at which time the place of the exploration will bo de elded. Transportation will be pro vided for members not having cars. Each member Is to bring his own lunch, the society to furnish coffee, cream and sugar. t To Convention The Rev. Henry W Anderson, Medford CCC district chap lain, plans to leave In a few days for Washington, D. C- where he wl!l attend the annual convention of the TJ. 8. Army Chaplains association, May 17 to 10. Chaplain Anderson will travel east by train. On the return trip he will stop at Detroit where he will take delivery of a new auto mobile. To Take Leave MaJ. Ben Stafford, executive officer of the Medford CCC district, has been ordered to the command and general staff school at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., this fall and will begin a three months' leave of absence June B. His school term will start September 9. Major and Mrs. Stafford and their son Bruce plan to remain In Medford until July 1 and 'then they will begin a leisurely vaca tion tour through various parts of the United States before the major re ports for duty at Fort Leavenworth. Before coming to this district. Major Stafford commanded the Redding. Cal., CCC district, since disbanded. General Dae MaJ. -Gen. Albert J. Bowley, commanding the 9th corps area with headquarters at the Pre sidio. San Francisco, Is expected to come to Medford within the next few days to make an inspection of the local CCC district. It will' be the first Inspection by a corps area com mander since Brlg.-Oen. C. H. Conrad visited here In June, 1936. General Bowley recently assumed command of the 9th corps area. He has shown a deep Interest In the civilian conserva tion corps. . Auto Accidents -R. E. Hudson of 637 Austin street and August H. Belner of Medford drove cars Involved In a minor collision at East Fourth and Front streets this morning, ac J"Tdlng to a city police report. Charles Lewis of the Thayer apartments and B. D. Bonham drove machines colliding head-on on the Crater Lake highway about a mile and a half from the lake rim Wednesday after noon, s city police report stated. The Lewis machine was traveling toward the lake and the two collided on a turn in which visibility was poor due to high snowbanks on each aide of th.e road, the report said. Police learned he had paid his bill on April 38 up to April 33, an amount of S13.70. On May , his door at the Hotel Jackson was locked until he cleared up the remainder of his bill, police said, and he then moved to the Hotel Holland, registering under the name or Rollo. Chief McCredle said Hollo admit ted two house robberies In Portland, one of which was a policeman's noma where he stole a gold star, a gun and a gold watch. These art icle! were In bis room at the Hotel Holland, the chief said. When arrested and searched, he had 76 cents, the articles stolen from the D. O. Roberta home, three watches, a pair of stolen shoes which he was wearing, and the automatic pistol, which he admitted stealing from the home of O. R. jeude at 1114 West Eighth street April 33, the police chief said. Couldnt Recall All Rollo, In his alleged confession to police, listed eight houses he had entered and said there were othera he robbed but couldn't remember the date or address. This morning, police took him for a drive around town and he pointed out five more houses he assertedly said he had entered. Chief McCredle said Rollo named the Jeude house aa the first he bur glarised, obtaining a ruby stud pin, a nurse's pin, two rings, a hospital ring, a fraternity pin, a gold cross and chain and the Colt automatic. Rollo's next Job, the ohlef said he confessed, was at the home of Jos eph H. Meyers at 1U0 West Ninth street April 34. There he obtained 500 rolled pennies, a pig bank, and an Elgin gold watoh and gold chain the chief said. Rollo, In his alleged confession, said he entered a brown house on Orange street and stole $7,00 In cash, but be couldn't remember the date. Police learned the house was at 43 Orange street and owned by H. L. Elwood. He also named a house on Thirteenth street where he stole a pair of black shoes, according to Chief McCredle. Took Thomdlke Coin On April 39 he entered the home of Eugene Thomdlke at 017 Dakota street and stole a smsll bank con taining 13 In pennies, a pair of black oxford shoes and a white gold wrist watch, Chief McCredle said. Mr. Thomdlke identified the watch this morning. A humorous touch was given to this robbery when Mr. Thomdlke, manager of tha First National bank of Portland, Medford branch, said Rollo appeared In the bank the next day and had his pen nies chsnged Into silver. Mr. Thom dlke didn't discover his home bad been robbed until last night, he be lieving the articles had been mis laid. Robbed Crawford Home On the night of May 4 the house of Oris Crawford at 814 West Main street was robbed by Rollo, his al leged confession stated, and from It were stolen a man's leather hand bag, two shirts, a pair of shoes, an. old-fashioned woman's watch, and $5 In sliver from a purse. These articles were found In the Hotel Jackson, the police chief stated. Other homes Rollo ransacked, ac cording to Chief McCredle, but on what date la not known, Included that of Almus Prultt at 931 Queen Ann avenue, where a $50 ruby ring and an empty cash box were stolen; that of A. G. Oottlg at 1004 West Jackson boulevard, where nothing was taken; that at 510 Newtown street owned by Sam Dixon, where Rollo failed to gain entry but stole a home-made pie out of the Ice box on the back porch; and that of Marline Gramsley at 616 Newtown street, where the owner didn't resl lre her home had been robbed until police told her this morning after Rollo asaerteoUy had pointed out the houae to them. Rollo attempted to enter . house at 601 Dakota streat, he allegedly told police, but couldn't get In. Rollo could give police no logical reason for his outburst of asserted house robbing. Chief McCredle quot ed him as saying he didn't know why he did It. He told police he was bom In Topeka, Kan.. April 22, 1009, and that his parents were dead.
