PAGE TWO MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFOTtD. QftEGON, TUESDAY, MAY 3, 1938. CHAMPION CHICK TWIRLS 'SECRET' FOR PAY-OFF PIN Cowboy Dude Chick made the Black Secret' Medford debut highly un pleasant last night In the Medford armory by spinning wrestling's new est hooded monster Into oblivion in 28 minutes flat before a near-capacity crowd. ; It was a copyrighted Chick victory, the Junior heavyweight champion giving his opponent a wrestling les son until the opportunity presented itself for the lariat business. And. when It came, the Cowboy didn't hesitate. He hoisted the Secret aloft and gave him 14 complete revolutions of the spin, and the masked villain was utterly unable to return for mure mat action. It was the lone fall of the match. Because there had been no avreo ment between the Secret and Pro moter Mack LI Hard regarding the hooded one unmasking In case of a defeat, loca fans didn't get a glimpse of the face underneath the black head-covering. The Black Secret told LUlard after the match that he wouldn't unmask anyway, and never would. The masked grappler was previously billed as a clean and scientific per former, but he showed little else but downright orminess. Sgt. Bob Kenaston made short work of Bulldog Ken Hoi lis In the middle event, grabbing falls In the second and third heats with Gold Hill crabs It was a dirty match until Kenaston applied the finishing touches, with I Hollls pulling all the Illegal acts In the book, and Kenaston fighting back with the same maneuvers. Kenaston applied his first crab hold near the end of the second round, end 00 wobbly was Hollls that he was easy prey for the same hold within 10 seconds after the third round started. Bobby Chick took a page from his brother's grappling book In the open ing bout to spin the villainous Fritz Hansen Into submission In the fourth canto, after the Swede gained the Initial tumble In the third round with a Boston orab. Bobby gave a pretty fair Imitation of Dude when he picked Hansen up and revolved him a dozen times be fore slamming him to the canvas and dropping on top for the fall. Hansen, like the Black Secret, was unable to oome back. Brother Bobby's lariat spin was slightly different than Dude's, In that he reversed the pro cedure by hoisting Hansen to his shoulders upside-down. Promoter Llllard announced that Red Lyons, the Joplln Ghost, would definitely appear on next week's pro gram for the first time since last year. Laid end to end, the sheets of nice whlto paper would probably roach from the Ferry building to Joe DIMagglo's boonery In North Beach. From the looks of this reading mat ter released from exposition head quarters, we would predict that 'Frisco la going to come through with a sports program that'll make the Olympic games look like a Sun day school picnic. This last batch of releases to sud denly appear on the typing gadget of yours truly is a mere three pages, nnd hashed up into sports "fillers." First Item is In regard to the plaque and individual medals to be award ed the first six teams to finish In a three and a half mile relay swim around Treasure Island, May IS. Then follows two short briefs of not much Import. The noxt "filler" states that "Paul 'Hardrock' Simpson, whose letterhead proclaims him world champion runner. Insists In a letter to the 1030 World's Fair of the West that It cannot be com plete without a marathon, and a 24- hour raco against a horse, for which 'Hardrock' holds several records." The release makes it clear that such on event will probably be arranged. The fair will go In a big way for aquatlo events of all kinds and de scriptions. There will be boat and canoe racing, Sea Scout activities, canoe tilting, diving and swimming exhibitions, a huge yacht regatta, and almost anything else you can think of, which has to do with water sports. There Is no doubt but that thoB In charge of the program believe It will be positively ter rific, which Is probably true. In fnrt, one "filler" even m so far as to announce that southern California sportsmen will co operate In athletic e rents, which Is certainly belnr optimistic. Tied with the Sacramento Solons for second place, the Stars are only one game behind the Beavers. A win tonight would put the Stars Into a tie for the top rung. Sacramento may make It a three- way proposition by beating third place Los Angeles. But that would be only a one-day stand at the most. If Hollywood should win Wednesday and Sacramento likewise, Portland would be shoved Into second place. All of the Coast league teams are playing split series this week, the first of three on the 1038 schedule Friday the Stars move Into San Francisco, where the Seals entertain Seattle for three games starting to night. Seattle will go to Sacramento for the weekend. Oakland opens at San Diego this afternoon and fin ishes tho week at Los Angeles. Port land will replace Oakland In the San Diego park.
