MEDFOKD MATL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON". THURSDAY, APRTL 21, 1938. PAGE NINE GHILOQUIN WATER CONTINUES RISE; LOGS PERIL SPAN KLAMATH FALLS. April 21. API Water In the Sprague and William-. aon rivers continued its steady rise today, with a log boom at the Block linger mill at Chiloquln straining at Its moorings and threatening se vere damage should It bratk away. Flood crest was expected to arrive late tomorrow night or early Sat urday. The rise for the 34 hours ending at 8 o'clock this morning was registered at 4'. inches on the official gauge below Chiloquln. Un official observers at that piece esti mated that by this afternoon the level had Increased a foot from yes terday. Railroad men said they thought the S. P. trestle could survive If the log boom goes out, but grave fears were felt for the W illlamson river highway bridge, several miles below Chiloquln. the single slim traffic link between Klamath Falls, north ern Klamath county and central Ore gon. Use of a locomotive to hold the log boom in place proved futile when the boom showed sins of dragging the big engine Into the water. The boom was then attached to two "dead men" sunk deep into the ground, but the tug of the half-million feet of tim ber pulled the logs partly out of the earth. Thursday afternoon the logs In the river were starting to "deck," arous ing further fear they would go out. The Williamson river has surround ed a home three miles below Chilo quln, and the Sprague has come up around the first row of cottages at the Blocklinger mill in Chiloquln.
