Referring to the great surplus the Ford company maintains, Ford said It. was as much part of his company's equipment as are the drill presses, blast furnaces and assembly lines. "We could not operate without that surplus," he said. "If we had to borrow money we could do so only on terms Involving surrender of control of our plants. Then we could not be Justly called a business. There are too many laws on the statute books that, if they are not modified, will drive Independent manufacturers Into the arms of the money lenders and that simply means putting in dustry back under the financial con trol from which it has been freeing Itself." A real understanding of the money system, Ford aald. might well be taught In the nation's schools. lighting standards with th stars snd garlands will start Friday. City Superintendent Fred W. Oakes. acting dep uty administrator, and Wilfred Shu holm, state director of the division of labor, it was announced today by the Jackson County Chamber oi Commerce. Mr. Griffith la to be principal speaker at a lunch eon -forum to be given In tha Hotel Medford at l'i o'clock Tuesday by the Rotary club and the chamber of commerce. The publle la Invited. Mr. Griffith and his assistants are to arrive nera Tuesday morning. Aftr tha luncheon they will Inspect tha municipal airport which has been developed through WPA assist ance. Tha airport tour will be con ducted by Fred W. Scheffel, city superintendent. Statistical data and eh art will ba presented to Mr. Grif fith. Ra will also be shown a model of tha airport. Tha city at present Is seeking to procure additional WPA funds to complete widening of the main run way to meet department of com merce standards. The matter has bees presented to WPA headquarters 1b Washington, D. C, by Sen. Charles X. McNary. After the airport Inspection Mr. Griffith and his aides will be taken by Mr. Scheffel on a alght-seeing tour through Prescott park which is being developed by the civilian con servation corps.
