Proceeds from the firemen's Dill
wll' e used as usual In rebuilding
and repainting discarded toys tor
distribution among under-prtvllegea
children at Christina. The money
Is used In buying the necesssry sup
plies, the firemen contributing the
labor.
Old toys are now being received at
fire headquarters and Chief Elliott
asked for a generoua donation of
discarded playthings. Any kind of
toy Is acceptable, he emphaslred.
He said the firemen are eager to
distribute more toys thla year than
ever before. Last year about 1800 old
playthings were refurbished and dli
trlbuted, the chief related.
The firemen's project la supported
by Lady Lions who assist In gather
ing the old toys and In providing
as many new ones as possible. To
procure funds for the purchase 01
new toya the Lady Lions conducted
a rummage sale yesterday and to
day. The sale has been a complete
success and It was expected that
all the articles would be sold by
mld-aftcrnoon, committee In charge
stated.

EXPERT TO CONDUCT
BRIDGE CLUB HERE
Formation of a contract bridge
club at the Hotel Medford was an
nounced today by John Sosa, na
tionally known player, teacher, lec
turer and tournament director.
In addition to operating the club,
Mr. Sosa said he would give up-to-the-minute
instruction In contract
bridge and conduct a number ot
tournament, the first . to ' be- a
knock-out rubber bridge tourney at
the Hotel Medford on December 6.
Mr. Sosa has been conducting
classes In Ashland the past three
months. He teaches the Culbertson
system though he knows 18 others,

conference, said If the Republicans
agreed to repeal of the undistributed
profit tax It would, meet with his
approval "100 percent."
House leader hoped to get the
form bill Into their chamber within
a day or two.
The house rivers and harbor com
mittee begun hearings today on a
legions planning program, another
of the presldcnt'a recommendatlona.
The proposal would 'create seven
regional authorities to coordinate all
proposals for conserving the nation
resources, ranting from stream pol
lution curbs to construction of flood
control dams.
Chairman Mansfield (D.. Tex.) of
the committee said he would submit
to the members suggestions that the
authorities be fact-finding agencies
only. After comerences with house
leudtrs, he said he believed con
gress would not grant such broad
authority as the Tennessee valley
authority now has.
Betting Master Dies
NEW YORK, Nov. M. (API John
O. Cavanaugh, 78. who for 88 years
had charge of the betting rings of the
five New York race tracks, died today
at Medical Center.
