W,rFOT?T MAIL TRTflTTNTE. rEDFOTtD- OfttflOy, SOPD'AT. OCToBEft 24. 1037 PAGE SEVEN -v. si I; J2 NEW OLDSMOBtLE ON DISPLAY HERE Oldsmoblle, America's oldest man ufacturer of automobiles, today an nounced lt 41at series of cars, the Oldsmoblle six and the Oldsmoblle eight, for 1998. Distinctively different In appear ano and styling, the new models are ' en display today at the showroom of tha Medford Distributing corpora tion, new local Oldsmoblle dealer, lo cated at 33 South Bartlett. Both tha alx and eight present much that la new In performance and mechanical design and both now offer as an extra-coat option the new automatic safety transmission, devel oped and Introduced by Oldsmoblle. This new development, regarded as one of the major automotive an nouncement of modern motoring, was first offered as optional equip ment on the Oldsmoblle eight of last year. Although both the six and eight are unusually fast and responsive when equipped with conventional transmissions, they attain even high er peaka of performance when equipped with the Oldsmoblle suto matlc safety transmission. This transmlssln also contributes Im portantly to both driving ease and operating economy, the latter result ing from a fourth gear direct drive which reduces the number of motor f revolutions and improves fuel econ omy by 18 to 30 per cent. Operation is extremely simple and control Is by a short lever on the steering column. With the automatic safety transmission, the foot clutch Is used only to start snd stop. At about 23 miles per hour, the trans miaalon automatically shifts on to fourth gear or direct drive, which Is the aconmy or cruising gear. Among other features of particular interest Is the new Oldsmoblle safety lnatrment unit and safety dash, a departure in the modern manner from the conventional type of In strument panel. The safety panel, free of projecting knobs, la but one of many details which contribute to ward passenger security In the re designed safety Interiors of the new Oldsmoblle. Body lines are lower and cleaner than before. Fenders are unusoually wide, deeply valanced and of heavier gauge metal than in pre vious models. Bullet-type headlamps are mounted low on the crowns of the front fenders. While the head lamps appear to the eye aa part of the fenders themselves, actually the headlamps are demountable for econ omy'a sake In case of fender damage. T ;"The new automatic safety trans mission, which was offered only after five years of development and test ing, represents one of the most Im portant contributions that Oldsmo blle haa made to modern motoring," asserts Rook Emerson, manager of the new firm. Jerry Ogly. who la well known Along automobile row, and Bill Aus tin have accepted sales positions with the Medford Distributing corporation. LOKDON (CP) Even those who have had occasional visions of pink mloe might well exclaim at the array of colored mice exhibited at Market Hall. Not only were there pink mice, white mice, and mouse-colored mice, but blue mice, silver mice, black mice, red mice, gold mice, chocolate mice and multicolored mice. PLYMOUTH sun rncea .
