L MEET HERE District Conference Slated Next Saturday and Sun day Jamboree Slated Saturday Evening at Hotel The S."-.thcrn Oregon Dl strict Con ference of CreKon Federation of BuslneM and Professional Women's clubs will be held In Med ford, Octo ber 18 and 17. Clubs Included in this district are Bend, Grants Pass. Klamath Falls and Med ford. A large number of state officers and dele gates from other sections of the state will also attend. Mrs. Maud Snider, president of the Mod lord club and chairman of the confer ence, announces that the program, will open Saturday evening with a Jamboree at the Medford hotel, with Miss Viola Schorrer in charge, as stated by 13 Medford members. Miss Bcherrer promises a full evening's entertainment with music and special numbers In addition to the fun pro gram. Grants Pass B. P. W. ciud plans to furnlah two numbers ot the program. Mrs. Zola Morgan of Hlllsboro, state president, will preside at the executive council breakfast at 7:lb a.m. The official program of the conference will be presented at the Elks Temple Sunday from 10 a.m. to 13:30 p.m., with Mrs. Mabel U. Mack, state program chairman, in charge. Mrs. Mnck haa arranged a varied program for this session which , will aid local olub program chairmen I In program work. Mrs. Morgan win give a report of the biennial con vention of the National Federation of Business and Profession si Wo- . men's clubs, held at Atlantic City In July. Miss Constance Lofts, of Hood River, state membership chairman, will discuss "How to Gain and Hold Members." Miss Ann Hlndle of Portland, state publicity chairman, will discuss "The Value of Publicity and What li Ade quate Publicity." Mlsa Ruth Moore, state public re lations chairman, will present a dis cussion of "What Controls Business and Trade and Labor Organizations," which is one phase of the program of the national federation on "Our Town's Business." Assisting Miss Moore on this program will be Huida Lammers of Bond, Thora Lawrence of Medford. and Irene Rlnguette of Grants Pass. The conference will close with & luncheon at the Medford hotel, at which Mrs. Snider will preside. The program Includes Introduction oi state officers by Mrs. Morgan, and one-minute talks by all local club presidents In attendance. Miss Evangeline Phllbln of Port land, state chairman of International relations, luncheon speaker, will dis cuss the Ptan-Amerlcan Peace con ference which she attended In Van couver, B. 0 as a delegate of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's clubs. Mies Phllbln la a very able speaker, and she will have a message of Interest to everyone. All club .member of the southern Oregon district are urged to attend all sessions of the conference with exception of the executive council breakfast which Is open only to state officers and club presidents. The Klamath Falls trophy cup will be awarded to the club traveling the largest number of miles per members attending. The Portland ' club has stated that they will be contenders for the cup. The Hlllsboro club is also planning to bring a large dele gation. The cup was won by Port land at the September conference. Local musicians will assist in the Sunday programs. Mrs. Marjorle Pena, Girl Scout executive, will lend sing ing at the morning program. Mrs. Mabel Sims will be the accompanist. Mrs. Effle Erbert Kurt will lead flinging at the noon luncheon. OP) Petitions signed by more than 100.000 Town sendltes, asking for a special legis lative session to amend the old 'ige assistance lew In Oregon, will be pre sented to Governor Charles H. Mar tin at a mass meeting here tonight. Governor Martin said he had ac cepted an Invitation to attend the meeting and will give an address. The Townsendltes are urging that the minimum pension for persons ellgiblle for old age assistance be fixed at 130 a month. The present law places the maximum pension at 30 a month. 6 P.M. CLOSING NOT PORTLAND. Oct. 4. (T The Portland Grocery Clerks union hss no contracts providing for 6 p. m. closing, nor does it advocate thus shortening store operations, Tom B. Lenhart, president, said today. He attributed reported statements to the contrary to "certain unscrupu lous employers' who wished to es tablish 6 p. m. closing In order to reduce salary expense.
