P-TOE THREE Postal Inspector Makes Photo of Arctic Circle A man wit In Medford today who uld he has a photograph of the Arctic circle. . School booka may say that the Arctic circle Is an Imaginary line, but Judge Wood, poatofflce Inspector, avers he has a photo of It. This is how tt happened: At a certain place In Alaska a reindeer fence exactly parallels the Arctic cir cle for 35 or 40 miles. From an air plane the fence looks like a thin white line. When he was on a post office Inspection trip in Alaska re cently, Mr. Wood photographed the fence from a plane. Now, he de clares, he has a photo of the Arctic circle, bringing the Imaginary line Into actuality. During his mwnt Inspection trip to the Arctic territory, Mr. Wood covered about 4 1 ,000 miles, mostly by atr. He left Seattle on June 36 and was back on September 3. Alaska's problem has been trans portation and that has now been solved by aviation, Mr. Wood said. Plane schedules now cover the ter ritory and the service la more ef ficient than in continental United States, he asserted. As an example of the Improved transportation facilities, Mr, Wood , cited a trip he made from Pair banks to Nome, a distance of about 800 miles. By steamer on tLo Tukon j the trip used to require 31 days. Mr. t Wood said he left Fairbanks one j day by plane at 7 a. m., made eight stops. Inspected seven postofflces and j had supper In Nome.
