(P) By way of a 12-hlt attack that featured hom ers by Rip Collins and Joe Marty, plus six-hit pitching by Tex Carleton. the second place Cubs moved up to within two end one -half games of the league-leading New York Giants today by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies again, 9 to 3. Carleton turned In his 14th vic tory. He embellished It by retiring the final 16 men in order, except for a wind-blown hit. Marty's homer, a 400-foot liner iato the dead center bleachers, tied the score at' 2-2 in the second. Collins homer, into right center with Gabby Hartnett aboard, put the Cubs ahead 4-2 in the third. The game, witnessed by only 6.635. ended the season's business between the teams, with the Cubs winning 14 of the 22 games. Score: R. H. E. High fire danger continues through out all parts of the state, the forest service reports, and warned hunters to take extreme care In putting out all fires.
