this- week from a three weeks' vaca
tion In San Jose and San Francisco
where she visited friends and rela

mon visited her aunt, Mrs. Helen

Rogers Returns City Building In
spector Frank H. Rogers returned by
plane last night from Salt Lake City
where he attended the annual con
vention or the International Associ
ation of Electrical Inspectors, north
west division. Mr. Rogers left here
last Saturday and traveled by air
both; ways.
Flying South gt. A. Hansen stop
ped at Medford municipal airport this
afternoon to have his Douglas basic
training plane refueled. Accompanied
by Warrant Officer L. D. Bradshaw,
he was returning to his station at
Rockwell field, San Diego, from Fort
Lewis, Wash. While waiting for their
plane to be serviced the rhen had
lunch' at the airport cafeteria.

nose as an added safety factor.
Continue Vacation Mr. and Mrs.
Herb Grey returned to their home at
714 South Oakdale avenue Wednes
day night after vacationing In Wash
ington and British Columbia. They
departed again this morning, going
to the coast for the remainder of the
week. They were accompanied today
by their two sons, Herb and Jimmy.
Forester Returns Paul Brlnson,
Junior forester of the Rogue River
national forest, returned to his duties
at headquarters here this morning
after spending several days in the
field on a -mission pertaining to tim
ber sales. The special work took him
to the Lake of the Woods and Union
Creek districts.

Two carloada of Medford pears, con
signed to London, went aboard the
Furness motorshlp Pacific Grove to
day. The British Columbia Express and
the Vlllanger were expected to take
on Oregon fruit next week.
Tne two carloads consigned to Lon
don were from the Bear Creek or
chards owned by the Rosenberg
brothers. The peers were extra fancy
Bartletts intended for the select Lon
don trade, the orchard office said.
The shipment was said to be one of
the first consignments - of Medford
pears for the London market from
here this season.
Bartlett sh,ents from the Rogue
River valley total 98 cars to date, ac
cording to the freight department of
the Southern Pacific railroad. Can
nery shipments total 71 cars. Twenty
five oars were shipped to. eastern
markets and for export shipment from
Portland and other coast ports.
Picking and packing of Bartletts
will be completed by the end to next
week. Many orchards are now In tfc
second picking.
HAVERHILL, Mass. (UP) His fear
of being "run over" landed Roy Jones
in Jail. Jones was found by patrol
man John J. Butler lying In an alley
with a gallon Jug of cider at his feet
and a red lantern glowing by his
head.

worried by the. Spanish government'6

ported by Insurgent sources today to
be speeding a motorized column from
conquered Santander .to the Arsgon
front. These reports said the column
hurriedly packed up and rolled out
of the Biscayan seaport which It
helped ' occupy yesterday, leaving
other brigades of Franco's 100,000
strong northern army to prosecute
cleanup operations east and west of
Santander.
A Valencia, communique said crack
troops had swept to within four miles
of the fortified Zaragoza, flanking It
from the north and south to squeeze
out the Insurgents.
Premier Benito Mussolini Jubilantly
acclaimed , the Spanish Insurgents'
capture of Santander, a victory that
cost Italy 341 soldiers killed and
1,676 wounded. He . exchanged con
gratulatory messages .with General
Franco. .

a screen torn off a window, he
