To Inspect Forest M. L. Merritt. United States assistant regional for ester In charge of the division of operations for Oregon and Washing ton. Is expected to arrive here Mon day to make a general Inspection of the Rogue River national forest. He will start In the Applegato district and will be here lor at least two weeks. Such an Inspection Is made of every national forest once every three years. Mr. Merrttt arrived here short time ago for the inspection but was recalled to Portland almost Immediately because of the huge for est fire near Randle, Wasn. PRESIDENT JOYCE OF GREATWESTERNSEES FIT P. H. Joyce, president of the Chi cago Great Western railroad com pany, was In Medford today to con fer with local fruit growerB and packers on his annual coast trip made each year at the opening of the fruit season. The rail executive stated tnat business in the east Is in fine con dition and prospects are the brightest in vears. He la highly optimistic concerning outrooks for the coming year In all lines of business and Industry. Even the farmers are lacing en couraging market conditions. Joyce believes, stating farmers "are going town and we're all going rignt along with them" and expressing the hope that orchardlsts would come In for their share of prosperity. Labor troubles besetting Industry at present do not Impress the ratl rosd man as being of catastrophic significance. 'It will all work ltseir out an right," he declared. "We neve always had labor disputes and probably al ways will. While It Is having a detri mental effect on business progress to some extent, I do not believe It will permanently upset things.
