Some of the camps, which now number nearly 3,000, are located at high elevations In densely wooded, almost Inaccessible areas far from hard-surfaced roads. Also, In many Instances camps are located In sec tlons remote from the supply facil ities regularly maintained by the army In each of Its nine corps areas. Nearly half of the rations of CCC enrollees are perishable supplies, such as meat, poultry produots, fresh vegetables, butter, fish, eggs, which are purchased locally. The dally production by 1.(100,000 chickens la required to keep the CCO enrollees supplied with eggs, the quartermaster corps estimates. Approximately 844,000 hogs will be slaughtered during the year to pro vide bacon and lard. Pork for the camps will come from 1,038.468 hogs. The dally milk output of 14,404 cows will be used for fresb milk and the dally output from an additional 4,280 cows will be used for evapor ated milk. Farmers will dig 101,076 acres of potatoes for the unlucky enrollee on mesa duty to peel. The enrollees will pour syrup pressed from 1,764 acres of maple groves and cane patches over their wheat cakes. Cultivation of 4,680 acres of beans will be necessary to provide CCC campa throughout the year. The dally output of 78,000 cowa will be used tor butter and the output of 4,360 cows will be used tor cneose. At present enrollees who havo re ceived their training In actual work at the camps and In short, Intensive courses at corps area schools for bakers and cooks perform all cul inary duties. Orglnslly, virtually all of the eooka tor the COO were enlisted men of the regular army who were grad uates of the servlco's takers' and cooks' schools. "It Is best and easiest to train good drivers from boys and girls of the high school age, because their nervous systems are at their best for forming new habits," Keene added, "and the learning period grows longer aa the age (joes up." Similar training courses met with success last year in 10 high schools In New York, Maine, Pennsylvania, Ohio and other states. Nine colleges, Including Texas A. is M. and Texas Technological college, are offering safe driving Instruction courses this sum mer. The course at the high school will be worked out with co-operation of tho Dallas citizens advisory trafflo commission and the American Auto mobile association. Keene said the course wlU be taught' with actual automobiles being used In demonstrations and road lnstrus tlon. The cars will bo painted white, with special AAA driver training let tering . and a set of dual-control clutch and brake pedals Installed In the right hand front seat position for use of the Instructor. The dual control pedals will be connected di rectly with the driver's regulation pedals. Correct clutching, braking and proper shifting ot gears are learned more rapidly by the student through the use of the dual oontrols, Keene pointed out, and danger ot mishaps during the Instruction period Is les sened. To make road Instruction practical practice streets will be laid out. Driv ing situations will be presented te) the student.
