EK MEN TO PRESENT VARIED TANK PROGRAM IN ASM CARNIVAL The program of event for the CCC water carnival to do staged tomorrow , night at the Twin Plunges In Aah- j land waa announced today by Capt. 1 William C. Ryan, district welfare offl-' The water sports will conclude the life-saving and first aid school con ducted during the week with 47 mem bers from camps of the Medford dis trict participating. The water carnival will be a part of the "Greater Aahland" celebration and will be .free to the public. The pro gram follows: Plf tv-yard free atyle swimming race; demonstrations of artificial res- I plratlon following rescue, and dem onstratlons of various rescues; back stroke swimming race; diving com petition; fifty-yard side stroke swim ming race; underwater awlm; fifty yard breast stroke; free style dash; tumbling exhibition; 100-yard free style race; medley relay; special div ing exhibition by Twin Plunges life guorda, and matermelon race. Mlsa Dawn Owens, daughter of Ma J. George R. Owens, district commander, will present the prises to the winners at the end of the carnival. New York Divine To Preach Sunday At Presbyterian Rev. Calvin W. Laufer, D.D., of New York city will be the guest of Dr. Sherman L. Divine over the week end and preach from the First Pres byterian pulpit Sunday at 11 a. Hi lt was announced today. Dr. Laufer, editor of the new Pres byterian hymnal and long connected with the board of Christian educa tion of the Presbyterian church in the United States, has been a guest speaker at the Oregon and Washing ton synods this month and will con tinue ' south to Lake Tahoe Sunday evening to address the Synod of California next week. FLOWER GARDEN Visitors to the COC headquarters at the fairgrounds as well as motorists on the Pacific highway have noted the attractive flower garden now In full bloom there. The men of headquarters detach ment have been working on the gar--den since early spring and the sweet peas and gladiolus as well aa a variety of other flowers are now In bloom. A rock garden with a small pool and a. display of gladiolus has been l laid out near the barracks and supply offices and & seml-clrcular row of mixed flowers may be seen back of the flag pole. The detachment build ing la nearly covered on the front with climbing flowers, nasturtiums and other plants. . CRATER RIM ROAD IS NOW OPEN TD TRAVEL CRATER LAKE (Spl.) The Crater lake rim road la now open to travel, It had been closed since last autumn by 6now drifts. Six miles of the 35-miie rout? around the lake from the lodge to the north entrance ranger station Is paved. Crushed rock surface covers the 13.4 mile section from the ranger sta tion to Cloudcap on the east side, followed by four miles graded sur face to Kerr Notch, from which four miles are paved to the Lost Creek ranger station. The remaining eight mile stretch to park headquarters is an oiled dirt road In good condition. Traffic will not be Impeded by con Bt ruction activities. Two contract now underway are on a new route of the rtm road several hundred feet higher than the present road. Mountain district, were trading In Eagle Point Tuesday. Johnnie Wood rich returned home Monday from the B acred Heart hos pital where he spent several days with a leg ailment. He Is Improving slowly. Harold will return home In a day or two. but Stella and children will remain here for two or three weeks. Half-Mile Track Record Shattered GOSHEN. N. Y July 16. (API Greyhound, the country's outstand ing trotter owned by E. J. Baker of St. Charles, 111., today broke the world's record for a half mile track when- he trotted a mile In 1:69 over the historic oval. The time bettered the previous mark of 3:03 which he set at Allen town, Pa., lost year. It also smashed the track record of 2:02 estab lished by Uhlan In 1911. Pardon Revoked SALEM. July 16. (AP) The con ditional pardon of J. P. Hardy, Doug las courtly convict, who waa released from the state penitentiary In Sep tember, 1924. waa revoked today by Governor Martin because Hardy re turned from Canada to the United States after being deported under terms of the pardon. Hardy was re ceived at the prison In February, 1023, to serve four years for forgery. A floating excavator In the Urn- folosl river, Zululand, frequently "digs up"' crocodiles.
