Scott Bays, 19, was killed today when
an apparent madman, Sheriff L. A.
Broden reported, plunged a knife Into
the youth's heart.
Bays and a companion had stopped
on a road to take pictures when a
grizzled, middle aged man emerged
from r thicket.
'What can wo do for you?" Bays
was quoted as asking.
"You can't do anything for me.
I'm going to kill you." tho man was
said to have replied as he drew a
knife and lunged at the boys.
Bay's companion escaped when a
truck came Into view and the slayer
vanished Into the woods.

now stat department of geology and
mineral Industries, cognizant of
complaint from sportsmen and com
mercial fishing interests,, promised
co-operation today in scientific stud-
lea to determine the effect of mineral
sludge on fish life.

and federal authorities to learn It

Budget provisions presented the
governing board by E. K. Nixon, new
director, allotted 16,G04 for grub
stake loans, $8000 for equipment

under state law allowing a $50 loan
to prospectors for a five-year period
with the understanding they, repay

mining ventures.
The department will take over all

a clearing house for mine properties.

cinity for 35 years and was widely
known In southern Oregon.
Mr. Galbrcath Is survived by his
parents, his wife Beatrice, a son.
