It will mark the first time in Medford's history that regular grap pling programs have been staged out-of-doors, and will darken the Armory lights, scene of the matches for the past four years, until early autumn. The announcement was officially made through the medium of type written notices, distributed to Com mercial snd Service league Softball team managers meeting In the M. N. Hogan Brokerage company office by Russell Acheson, member of the high school ooschlng stsff and newly elected manager of the Medford Soft ball association. The notices were signed by I. H. Hedrlck, super!, tendent of city schools. , Make Change at Once..- Work will start Immediately on making the necessary r .ungss In lighting and seating arrangements at the stadium. The ring ill be brought from the Armory arm placed directly In front of the Ri&ndstsnd on Mon day. Promoter LUlard will surround the arena with his own 000 reserved aests and platform, and tentative plans csll for the entire grandstand being drown open to general sd mlssloo. A powerful floodlight will be drop p'jd over the ring from one of the tall lighting atandards now in use on the lighted football field. All matches, during the 10 weeks, will get under way at the same time 8:10, and all shows, ss In the psat, will be staged on Monday nights. With the trsnsfer of wrestling to the high school field, all Softball on Monday night will be curtailed, with teama originally scheduled for that night doubling up and ataglng their g a m e a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Acheson Heads League. At the team managera' meeting last night, -Russell Aoheson was unsnlmously elected manager of the Medford Softball association to suc ceed Fred Lennsrd, who resigned last week Lennsrd wsa given a vote of thanks by the skippers present for his fine work to date. It wsa decided that balls used In all Commercial league games must first meet the approval of the um-plre-ln-chlef, It being pointed out that the sphores beoame dirty or too soft for play after two or three games. To Pay Umpires. Acheson announced that from now on, S3 would be available eaoh night for the payment of competent um pires, snd a short list of possible officials was suggested. They sre Hood River, Bend and Eugene, and each Is considered far snd away the most poweiful ag gregation In Its respective section of Oregon. Other teems to tangle with Med ford sre Oranta Pass, Ashland and Klamath Falls, Southern Oregon con ference members, snd Roaeburg Those gsmes will be played away from home. A tentative battle with Eureka high la also slated for tbe local stadium, and Coach Bowerman said he was attempting to line up an opener for the last week In Sep tember, also to be staged here. Three Home Games. The wsy the schedule stsnds now, Medford will play three games In their own bsckysrd and four away from home, with all three confer ence encounters being staged In their opponent' lair. If the Eureka affair Is billed, there will be four home games, and If an opponent can be found for September 25, fans will see the Tigers In five appear ances on the local turf. The 1037 slate Is considered the most killing ever attempted by a Medford team. Bend, Eugene and Hood River were all champlona of their respective district last season, snd with each school losing few let termen, they are again figured the clnss of their sections. EUREKA GOLF FORCE TO INVADE Members of the Rogue Valley Golf club will play their second Inter-city team match of the year next Sun day morning when they entertain 25 dlvot-dlggera of the Eureka, Cat., club over the local greens and fairways. The match will be a return engage ment from two years ago when the locals traveled to the California coast City. The visiting golfers will arrive in Medford Saturday afternoon, and after practicing on the Rogue Valley links, will be entertained at a ban quet In the Hotel Medford at 6:30 p. m. The team match will be scored by the Nassau system, allowing one point for the first nine holes, one point for the second nine, and one point for the entire 18. Players will be matched with opponents as nearly even In handicap as possible.
