Ban well, m&nager of the Jack son County Chamber of Commerce for the success of the three-day con ference of the Northwest Aviation Planning Council In Boise, Idaho, last week. Mr. Banwell conduct the ses sion as the council's general chair man. The letter was written to Mayor Porter by Walter R. York, program chairman for the conference, prom inent merchant and former president of the Boise Chamber of Commerce. It read: "The third meeting of the North west Aviation Planning Council has come and gone. Those of us respon sible for the program and the ar rangements, however, feel a deep debt of gratitude to you and the city ad ministration of Med ford as well as to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce for the privilege of hav ing had as our general chairman Mr. A. The meetings were opened on time, conducted splendidly and the busi ness disposed of most expeditiously. Due to Mr. Ban well's foresight not a single one of the local interests which might have disrupted or In terfered with the achievement of the broad purpose of the planning coun cil was permitted to enter into the discussions. As a result a fine, har monious spirit of accomplishment characterized the sessions. A proposal, supported by Harry Bridges of the International Long shoremen s union, to "endorse and support" labor's non-partisan league. the commonwealth federations of Oregon and Washington and other political groups, was reierred to the component unions. Ashland1, premier booeur and tun club which h been In operative for several years, revived Its organisation Wednesday evening at an enthusiastic meeting In the Llthla Hotel, with the election of Attorney William M. Brlggs a Orand High Plra, the chief official of the club. First meeting of the revived club will be a dinner In the Hotel Uthla. at which further plana of the club will be discussed and formulated. Other officials elected at the Wed nesday evening meeting were: Little Pin. (vice-president), Henry Enders. Chief Kffervescer, (secretary), Karl P. Nlms. Chief Bottler, (treasurer), Oerald Wenner. Attorney Brlggs acted aa temporary chairman of the meeting, which at tracted about half of the former ac tive membership. It was unanimously decided to revive the organization. which ceased functioning at the be ginning of the depression. It la hoped to have the club fully organised and going for the Greater Ashland cele bration July 18 and 17, when It will take a prominent part In the occa sion, as It always did In former years at such events. LUMBER OUTPUT UP DURING WEEK SEATTLE. June 35. (AP) Produc tlon of 173 down and operating mills In Washington and Oregon last week totaled 131,392.100 board feet, an Increase of 23,051,798 feet over the previous week, the West Coast Lum bermen's association reported today. Shipments decreased from 117, 799.215 to 117,306,049 feet. New business taken was 99.345,183 board feet, compared with 96,575,516 the week before. PORTLAND. J-ne 33. (AP) Re porta from 113 mills showed last week's new business of 56,289.000 board feet of lumber was about the same as the previous week, the west ern pine association said today. Production totaled 88.110.000 feet, about five million feet more than the previous week, and arttpments reached 69,670.000, a gain of about three million feet. Orders and shipments dropped be hind the corresponding week a year ago but production Increased. To dat. orders were reported 13 per cent above last year. MUSIC AND HEALTH AID AT WASHINGTON, June 35 (AP)B , Agriculture department economist ' noted today a traditional sign of pros perity a decline In the farm popula tion. They said persons living on farms at the start of this year totaled 31, 739.000, a decrease of 80.000' from January 1, 1936. It was the first de cline since 1929. During prosperous periods, they ex plained, more young farm men and women found Jobs in cities and towns and fewer persons returned from ur ban centers to the country, where they t least could find food and shelter. . The economists estimated 716.000 babies were born to farm women last year and that 349,000 farm residents died. AGE PENSION GROWTH TOLD BY GOV. MARTIN ' ASTORIA, June 35. (P) Governor Charles H. Martin, In ft luncheon ad dress before state officers of the Fra ternal Order of Eagles, said Thursday that the old age assistance program for Oregon for a blennlum would cost 22,000,000. The governor pointed out that of this amount but 17.000,000 would come from the federal government and the balance would be assessed against tbe state and counties alike. "The trend of such assistance la toward Increasing the eligibility list and increasing Individual allotments," he declared. The governor left for Portland Im mediately after the luncheon. (Spl) The Jackson County Medical society's lest meeting before its vacation, which lasts until September, was held Wednesday evening in the gold room of the Hotel Ashland with 37 doc tors and guests present from Medford and Aat)land. An Interesting paper, entitled, "The Association of Music In Medi cine." was given by Dr. P. J. Moffatt of Medford. He spoke of the benefit of music from a therapeutic stand point. Following the reading of the paper, D. -. Moffatt played a group of rec ords that were chants of music, the type of music wMch was aang in the monasteries by the monks in the 13th century in France. Dr. C. I. Drummond'a father, who has moved to Medford from Nebraska and who is a retired doctor. Mrs. E. A. Woods, and Dr. B. Ollpin, who has recently located In Medford, were the guests at the meeting. The doctors present from Medford included: C. T. Sweeney. F. J. Mof fatt, W. H. Heckmnn. W. F. Roney, E. R, Durno, W. P.
