City Bids Welcome To Oregon Fire Chiefs' Association Convention PACE TWO 3-DAY CONCLAVE 200 TO JAKE PARI Public Banquet, Dance and Hose Drills On Program Talks Will Be Given On Hazards and Prevention CONVENTION PROGRAM Med ford will be host to the second fftate convection of the week whan the 18th annual conference and fire achoo of the Oregon Fire Chiefs' a aoclatlon open a three-day teuton here tomorrow. It will be the first time that the fire chiefs have convened In Medfor'd for their yearly conclave. It follows closely the annual district or state convention of Lions International which was brought to a close last night. The fire chief's convention Is de signed to be of interest and educa tional value to the lay person as well as the firefighters, and the pub lic Is therefore Invited to attend some of the sessions and special events. Chief Invites Public. "What Is believed to be of special Interest to the puDllc Is the banquet to be held In the Hotel Medford nt 7 o'clock Friday evening. Featured speaker will be Jay Stevens, Call fornla state fire march a 1, secretary of the Pacific Coast Fire Chiefs' as sociation and of the International Fire Chiefs' asoclatton and a leading American authority on fire preven tion. Mr. Stevens' address Is regard ed as of great value to persons con cerned with eliminating property losses through fire prevention. A musical program will be pre sented during the dinner by an en semble of accordionists. B. L. Barry, chairman of the Medford civil ser vice commission, will preside. "We should be delighted to have as many of the townsfolk as possible to attend the banquet," sold Roy Elliott, chief of the Medford depart ment and host to the convention. "We believe that everyone will have a good time and profit very materially by Mr. Stevens' talk." Tickets for the banquet may be procured at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. The drills will be held on North Ivy street between Main and Sixth streets. The program Includes sev eral dlferent evolutlona and most of the afternoon will be taken up by the contests. It Is anticipated that the hotly contested drills will attract many spectators. Deputy Marshals Aid. Business sessions wlU be held at fire headquartera. It la estimated that 300 delegates will attend, with sev eral guests being present from other states. Oregon State PI re Marshal Hugh . Earle sent his regrets at being unable to attend the Medford con vention. He wrote to Chief Elliott saying that he always makes a special effort to attend the state meetings and that only his absenoe from the state would keep him from coming to Medford. Mr. Earle la attending a convention of Insurance commission era In Philadelphia, Pa. The marshal's office haa endorsed the conference and fire school, de claring that the organisation haa ma terially reduced fire lossea In the state through prevention measures. Mr. Earle provided for the presence of three of his deputies at the con vention here. One of them. Jack A. Hayes, arrived yesterday morning to assist In the final preparations (or the conclave. ' To Entertain Visitors. " A program of entertainment has been arranged for the visitors and their wives, sightseeing trips around southern Oregon being one of the features. Social affairs have been planned for the women during busi ness sessions. Registration of delegates begins to morrow morning at 8 o'clock In fire headquarters.
