IIVIIKttL SCHEFFEL WARNS The trimming of ill tree limbs to a height of ten feet from street level was requested today by . Fred W. Scheffel, city superintendent. Mr. Scheffel pointed out that a elty ordinance provides that all shade trees must be trimmed free of ob struction to at least 10 feet above the surface of street and alleys. He said that In numerous places In the city the limbs are hanging low over sidewalks and streets. He amphasleed that the ordinance makes It mandatory for property owners or those In charge of property to keep the tree trimmed. LAST SURVIVOR, 99, OF PORTLAND, Jun 17 (AP) A stalwart man of 09 apparently la the laat survivor of Oregon Indian wars of the 1660'8. He Is dpt. John W. Cullen, who was welcomed laat night at a gathering of sons and daughters of the men beside whom he fought 60 years ago. Tomorrow will be hla 99th birth day and so far as friends know, he Is th'j last of those who wrested control of the Oregon country from the -Indians. Born In Indiana, Capt. Cullen came to Oregon In 1847, walking the 2,000 miles across country. After tne Indian wars, he fought in the Civil wer and Is one of the few surviving members of the old 1st Oregon In fantry. In tribute to him, relatives of sur vivor, of the Indian fighters elected Capt. Cullen grand commander of their association. Entertainment was furnished by the high achool girls' vocal trio, Hope Hammond, Corlnne Harwood and Rose Ellen Bloneker, who ssng two numbers that brought down the house. They were accompanied by Oenevleve Brown. Miss Le Merle Beck also sang two songs, accompanied by Mrs. Royal j E. Bebb, both received with great en thusiasm. The Elks band played several numbers, and the remainder! of the entertainment program was j turned over to the two good will ambassadors, Joe Cooke and Oeorge ! Stalzer, who sang and talked. j Moving picture In sound were showed by the two men, depleting ! actual automobile accidents which could have been avoided by more careful driving. Thou attending were j high In their praise of the pictures. It being the consensus that they were more thrilling than fictional movies. The two safety cars have been on the road for three weeks and visited over 40 lodRos, it was said. Oeorge Stalzer of Chicago mentioned during the banquet that real estate men present better get busy and sell him some property because he desired to move to Med ford. WYOMING MISS.11, AT PLAY, INJURED Miss Diana Burnett, 11 yeara old, of Buffalo, Wyoming, who with her mother, Mrs. Edward Burnett, re cently srrlvcd to be the gueat ot her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ruhl of Siskiyou Heights, fell this morning while playing In the Ruhl yard and broke her wrist.
