EIGHTH GRADE GE Dean Duback of Oregon State College to Give Ad dress at Annual Schoo Day at Ashland Tomorrow Between 300 and S50 eighth grade araduatea of Jackson county schools will attend graduation exercises at the sixteenth annual Jackson county school day to be held In Ashland to morrow. The class will Include all student finishing the eighth grade outside o( Aahland and Med ford echoola. Dean U. O. Dubach of Oregon State college will deliver the pnn ctpal address. The exercises will be held from 10 a.m. until noon in ine Ashland Junior high school. Diplo mas Issued at thla time entitles stu dents of non-high school districts to transportation expenses to a hign school In the county. County School Superintendent C. R, Bowman will present the diplomas. A feature of the morning program will be the appearance of a 35-plece band composed of students from the Gold Hill, Central Point, Eagle Point, Phoenix and Jacksonville schools, under the direction of R. A. Botts, Following morning program, the students will gather for picnic lunches In the park and apend tne afternoon swimming or enjoying rec reational facilities of the park. TO GREET PEOPLE'S CONFAB One of the outstanding rellgloua activities of the coming week end will be the entertainment by the lo cal corps of the Salvation Army of the sixteenth annual southern Ore gon Young People'a conference. The conference this year will be led by Major and Mrs. Ronald M. Eberhart of Portland. Major and Mrs. Mrs. Eberhsrt have charge of the Army's work In the states of Oregon and Idaho. They wilt be ssslsted In the conference by Captain Henry Koerner, of Portland; Major and Mrs. Thomas Mitchell, of Klamath Falls; Adjutant George Davey, of Grants Psas; Captain and Mrs. Henry Arno, or Marshfleld; Lieutenants Detts snd Beem of Roseburg, and Captain and Mrs. O. R. Durham, of this city. The first of the series of meetings wlll.be in the nature of a registra tion and welcome session starting at 3:30 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. This will be followed at 6:49 by an open-air demonstration and meeting at the corner of Main atreet and Central avenue. At 7:49 a group of the Medford delegates will present the Biblical drama entitled: "For He Had Oreat Possessions." This plav Is open to the publlo and no admis sion will be charged. Two meetings are scheduled for Sunday. The first will be st 10 a. m. and Is a closed session. This will be followed by the conference banquet. The final ses sion will start at 3:30 p. m. On Sun day evening Major and Mrs. Eberhart will lead a great Salvation rally In the headquarters auditorium at 236 1 REPORT APPROVES JAIL OPERATION ALSO POOR FARM Jackson county jail and 1U opera tion were commended In a report filed late yesterday afternoon with Judge H. D. Uorton In circuit court by the grand Jury. The Jury aald It had been Informed that a few sug gestlons made to the sheriff would be carried out. The suggestions were not enumerated. The reprt also stated that an In spection had been msde of the coun ty farm and tha,t the Jury consld ered It "en estimable Institution, welt operated and e credit to the county. The report also stated that an ln- tlnued: "We would recommend tm provements In the way of celling and painting the Interior of the laundry, The hospital facilities recently com pleted afford an economic and most satisfactory accommodation for the county patients." The jury was commended by Judge Norton for Its conscientious and ex peditious handling of the matters It was given j consider. The court ex cused the Jury, subject to call. Edward W.
