Elliott returned today after attend
ing an executive meeting of the Ore
gon State Dental association In Port
land. He reported that the annual
meetings and clinics of the associa
tion will be held In Portland, June
23 to 26, at the Multnomah hotel.
Several eastern clinicians aa well as
men from the coast states will appear
on the eprogram. Dr. Elliott stated.
Among subjects discussed at the ex
ecutive session were the formation of
a women's auxiliary, financing of the
journal of Dental Research, essay
contests, further building up of the
relief fund for Indigent dentists,
nominating of officers and the ar
rival of Dr. Floyd DeReln. eastern
dentist who will fill the new position
of dental member of the state board
of health.

coronation ceremonies is reserved for

Road Clearing Five miles of the
Diamond Lake highway were cleared
of snow yesterday. It was announced
today by Rogue River national forest
headquarters. Plowing from now on
will be made at the rate of a mile
a day, 11 days being required to
complete the clearing to the lake re
sort, the forest office said. The high
way Is now clear for 12 miles from
the Crater Lake highway Junction
and anglers may drive to the Rogue
river bridge for fishing. The plow
ing work Is being done by the United
States forest service.
Driver Teals Persons planning to
take motorcar driver examinations
are requested by the secretary of
state's office to study the rule books
procurable at city and state police
headquarters. Examinations will be
held here as usual on Saturday, con
ducted by Ward McReynolds. state
examiner, who will be at city hall
from 8 a. m. to 8 p. m. Mr. Mc
Reynolds will also accept renewal ap
plications for operator licenses. All
operator licenses expire June 30 and
it Is urged that licenses bo renewed
before the last minute rush.

Referendum petitions, numbering
27, upon two measures passed hy
the last legislature covering "slot
machine seizures by the sheriff, and
destruction by court order," and pro
hibiting slot machines, dart games,
and similar devices," have been filed
with the county clerk for checking
with the registration books.
The petitions were circulated In
all Incorporated towns and cities of
Jackson county. Some were sparsely
signed, others heavily. Signatures are
still being sought. The petitions must
be filed and checked before Mon
day, June 7.
It Is estimated there are between
750 and 1000 machines of all makes
and kinds in operation In this coun
ty, some placca having as many as
six. with no dearth of players.
