PAE TWO MTEDFORD MAIL TRIBUXE, 'MTIDFORD, OREGON". TTEPyESDAY, MAY 19. 1937. ri - - 1 ' " 1 v , CRATER INFIELD MAY BE HELPED BY TALENT YOUTH Dick Skeeters Tentatively Slated for Keystone Post Since Recent Loss . of Donovan, Third Baseman Toung Dick Bseeters. the Talent high school whiz, may hold the key to Medford'a Inileia prooiema. That waa the word of Managor Mike Balkovlck yesterday aa ha oom minted on the condition of tha Crater's Inner works following the loss of Donny Donovan, who signed with the Jlllt club of the Northern California circuit. "Skeeters la a sweet second base msn," the husky Medford skipper announced,' "and we may use him at that position. If he goes like 1 think he should, then Swanson can be shifted to first base or the out field." Only 15 Yean Old. Skeeters Is the 19-year-old kid who pitched Talent high to the county ' pennant without the loss of a game. His natural post Is In the Infield, his high school coach. Linn Mills. says. Balkovlck, after one look.agreed. However, Manager Balkovlck Is still up In the air regarding the Infield that will be out there when Jake Olpe brings his rough and tpugh Glendate Loggers here next Sunday to open Medford'a home schedule and dedicate the new turf field at the high school. He said that Ray Lewis, who play ed shortstop In high school, may be given a crack at the third base por tion, 'allowing Wally Rlckert, regu lar second Backer, to return to hie old post. Dick Lewis Is a fixture at shortstop. Dick Hoffman, who held down tha Initial cushion at Ashland last Sun day, may also be given a whirl at second or third base, the manager said, - Rlckert Needed at 2nd. At any rate, the crying need Is for a third baseman who can throw. Rlckert's arm is not too strong, al though he fields the hot corner in beautiful style, but Balkovlck fig ures the club would be strengthened with Wally back at his old second base position. However, If Skeeters ahould turn out to be what the doctor ordered at the keystone sack, Rlckert would be loft on third. Olrd for Loggers. The team la scheduled to work out ry..d'yt,h"'""t.
