PACE TWO rEPFOTCD MATL -TRIBUNE, fEDFORD, OREGON. TTJESDY, MAT 18. 1937. " J? aal CI, - -i r 1 .U : L PETE PINS TROUT; BRITT FLIPS POLE IN HECTIC BOOTS Pete Belcastro rammed ont bard knee Into the groin of Sailor Dick Trout with the tails standing one apleoa last night at the Medford armory, and that waa the end of Promoter Mack Li Hard 'a weekly grappling card main event, It aeemed that everyone In the house saw Feu break what appeared to be the winning bold with that foul punch everyone but Referee Rat Friable. Bailor Trout had the uad Italian dead to rtghta after blaainc drop kick atralght to the kisser. He was square atop the Weed roughneck and Just About to pin hi ahoulders to the carpet wnen reie latbed out with the dirty blow. Trout took It In the groin, doubled up In agony and In few seconds It wet all over, with Belcastro atrad dling the game Bailor boy and leer- in K at the crowd. For fully ten mlnutea after, the customers roared and ranted, but so far as Friable waa concerned he didn't see the foul blow, so what about It? Trout took the first fall of the sensational match In one minute. He raged out of bis corner at the bell and started throwing dropklcks, Pete's favorite punch. Beating Bel- coatro at hla own game, Trout con nected with five in a row alt to the stomach and chest before Belcastro ran like a baby for the ropes. Trout grabbed him by the head and brought him back Into the ring in a hurry; then hammered two more feet blows at Pete, That waa suf ficient, and Trout gained the tumble with a body press, although Pete wsa already flat on his shoulder blades after the seventh dropklck. Pete didn't have much chance to display his Infamous dirt In that first fall, but he ' made Up for It by taking the second In about 17 minutes. He opened the book and all the foul stuff In the world was ex hibited by the Mad Italian In those 17 minutes. He finally grabbed the fall after blinding the blonde, clean wrestling Trout with finger nails raked across the eyes, the payoff coming after a series of tremendous heaves against the ropes In which Pete caught the sailor on the re bound with his shoulder, hoisted him up and over and slammed him to the canvas. Although the arm-breaker over the ropes Is supposed to be barred In the local ring, Alvln Brltt used Just that to defeat Joe Smollnskl, the Polish Palooka. Nobody seemed to care, least of all the Medford box ing commission. Smollnskl had been so dirty himself, that the Illegal uae of the rope arm-snnpper by Brltt seemed tame and mild In comparison. Brltt took the first fall In the first round with many reverse body slams; Smollnskl grabbed the second In the second atanra after roughness the like of which has never been seen locully. A body slam did It, but It was really rhoklng, eye-gouging, flnger-twlatlng, halr-pulling, biting and scratching that put the ex ehamplon in a atate where he was easy prey for the slams. Brltt acted like a gentleman well Into the third round before Smo lliukl's dirt got the best of his con science. Finally, throwing caution and all sense of fair play to the winds, Alvln grabbed Bmollnskt's arm and broke it nvir the rhiff rope. Arnold Bauman, big Southpaw pitcher who saw service with Med ford three years ago and who is man aging the Hilt team this season, was in town Saturday evening and re ported that citizens of Hilt were in a state bordering on downright anger over the rap taken at their practice of luring players from Medford. In fact. Bauman stated, some of the Hilt citizens were so put out with the piece that we would probably re ceive one or more lettera on the subject. To date, no letters have been re ceived, but we are waiting patiently. If there Is anything thla department likes, It is letters on a subject, Also, there Is no preference as to subjecti It can be anything from the predom inance of southpaw catchers in the major leagues to the price of refrig erators at the north pole.
