Six klttenball teams have definitely
entered the summer league, and at
least four more are expected before
octual competition start in the near
future, Sam Jennings announced to
day. Jennings stated that a meeting
of all Interested tn the softball game
would be held at Jennings Tire com
pany next Tuesday evening at 7:30,
and urged representatives of all teams
and thoae planning on sponsoring
outfits to be present.
Those already signifying their in
tentions of producing nines are Lam
ports, The Toggery. Hubbard Bros..
Hughes and Underwood, Jennings
Tire company, and the Office Boys,
last year's champions. Ten teams
were entered last season, and as many
or more are expected this year.
The meeting Tuesday will be for
the purpose of forming the league
end discussing the location of games.

swimming prodigy who Is being
groomed for the 1940 Olympics in

Rogue River rational forest head
quarters today Issued the following
bulletin:
"With fair weather during the past
week, there haa been general im
provement In most all of the fishing
streams.
"Snow la melting rapidly In the
Union Creek 'area and stream are
high but fairly clear. All side roads
leading from the highway are closed,
except the road east from Prospect
which is open to the souUi fork of
Rogue river. This stream is fairly
clear and ahould provide "some good
bait fishing, although no report have
been received directly from there.
The Copco dam In the north fork
of Rogue river one mile west of Pros
pect haa yielded some very good
est che of large rainbow trout during
the past week. Best success waa had
with salmon eggs and angle worms.
"The road up Elk creek to Bitter
Lick bridge Is In good shape and bait
fishing In this stream Is reported fair.
"Big' Butte creek Is almost clear
and good catches have been made re
cently. The best success has been
had with angle worms and salmon
egga but some good catches have been
made by fly fishing with the red up
right and California Coachman. This
stream Is better Jn the morning than
:n the afternoon, since melting snow
in the afternoon raises the creek and
causes it to be more roily.
"Snow haa been plowed from the
road to the resort and to summer
homes at Fish lake. Because of the
melting snow and soft road surface,
this road will be treacherous this
week-end and chain are absolutely
necessary. Chains should be put on
at the Lake creek Junction. Provision
haa been made only for one-way traf
flc above the Lake creek Junction but
reveral turnouts have been provided.
There Is plenty of parking space at
the Fish lake resort and campground
The lake Is clear of Ice and boats are
available. Excellent success has been
been had by fishermen at Fish lakt
during the past week using salmon
eggs and angle worms as bait and
double spinner with a trailer baited
'with angle worms.
"Fishing on Little Butte creek Is
reported as fair. The south fork of
Little Butte creek Is apt to be too
muddy for good fishing this week
end. The road is open to Dead Indian
Soda Springs camp ground and la In
good condition. Cabins and a limited
amount of camping supplies are
available and the campgrounds are
ready for use.
"The road to Hyatt lake la not
open.
"Fishing conditions In the Apple
gate river and tributaries are poor
due to high water from melting snow.
There is a small run of ateelhead In
the Big Applegate and a few nave
been caught the last few days on
single eggs.
"The road to Sqaw lake la In good
condition and report have been re
ceived of several good catches of cut
throat trout in the lower lake. Boats
are not available at the present time.
"Roads In the Applegate district In
the lower elevations are all open for
travel but roads leading to the higher
elevations are closed on account of
snow. There are many wild flowers
end flowering shrubs In blossom In
this district.
"Reports have been received indi
cating that salmon fishing la good In
the main Rogue river below Medford.
The river has been too high for good
trout fishing but some fair catches
have been reported as being taken
above Trail."

Mrs. M. R. Bliss, pioneer of Jackson
county and for years resident of
Medford. passed away at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Whipple,
at Rogue River, after an Ulneaa of
four daye.
Minerva R. Ladda waa born In
Harmony. N. Y.. February 5. 1831.
and waa 80 years old at the time of
her death.
On October 19. 1860, she was mar
ried to Francis A. Bliss, and to the
union were born four children. One
son passed away In Infancy. Three
daughters survive, Mrs, Zorah Wiley
and Mrs. Myrtle Whipple of Rogue
River and Mrs. Hat tie Harris of Lewis
ton, Idaho. All were with her at
the passing. Eleven grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren also sur
vlve, Tbs husband passed sway In
1023.
The funeral waa held at the Pres
byterian church Wednesday afternoon
at a o'clock. Rev. Bancroft officiat
ing. Interment was ta Rogue River
cemetery.
