Set for Tomorrow
An evening musicale. arranged by
the recently organized music club
ol Medfortl. will be presented to
morrow evening at 8 o'clock In the
Baldwin recital hall.
Mrs. Darrell Huson heads officer
of the group as president. Roberta
Ward Bebb Is chairman of tomorrow
evening's program, which Is another
of the city's contributions In recog
nition of national music week. The
nubile Is cordially invited. There !

A small group of friend arranged
a surprise affair Tuesday evening for
Larry Schade, Jr., on the occasion
of his 16th birthday. Various games
provided entertainment for the eve
ning, with refreshments served later.
Six couples were guests for the no
bost affair.

Weekend Events
A number of Medford mother and
former atudents of Oregon State col
lege and the. Unlveralty of Oregon
are planning to Tistt the two cam
puses this week-end to attend spec
lal festivities.
Both tchools will observe Mothers
Day week-ends, with the University
combining Ita celebration with that
of Junior Week-End.
Among those planning to go are
Mrs. R. W. Steams. Mrs. Tom Gil
ford. Mrs. H. E. Conger. Mrs. O. W.
Nellson. Mrs. L Throckmorton to
Oregon State, and Mra Dolph Phlpps.
Mrs. B. B. Lowry and numeroua
others to the University of Oregon.
Mrs. Lowry will also visit on the
Oregon State campus.
Mothers are expected to arrive on
the Eugene campus Friday morning
to participate In the all-campus
luncheon to be held In the center
of the campus. During thla time the
queen of the week-end. Betty Pown
all, will be crowned. The Associated
Women students and the TWCA will
serve tea In the afternoon at Oer
llneer hall.
Master Dance will present Its an
nual dance recital at 8 o'clock In
th evening, with the Junior Prom
beolnnlm at 8 o'clock In McArthur
court. A special eertion Is to be re
nerved at the nrom for mothers.
In addition to event specially
ni.nnM for them, mothers will be
honor meats at all Junior Week-end
festivities. They will have a special
section at the canoe fete.

small son and daughter, who plan
a visit In Blaln, Wn.
They will be the guest of Mrs,
McAllister's mother, Mrs. Katherlne
Mlddleton. Thev will be away ten
days.

One of the major eventa of Med
ford 'a abservanoa of National Music
Week was the concert presented last
night at the high school auditorium
by the Junior Symphony orchestra,
under the direction of John R.
Knight. The orchestra waa assisted
by the Boys' and Girls' Glee clubs of
tne high school under the very able
leadership of Miss Floy oung.
Thla was the third outstanding
concert presented by thla group ol
young players, the personnel ol wntcn
Includes students from Gallce. Grants
Pass, Jacksonville, Ashland, Eagle
Point, Medford. Talent and Phoenix.
Ecsldes affording students the oppor
tunity to appear before an audience
o! friends and eupportere. these con
certs familiarise the young people
with good music, and are given as a
generous community service.
The young soloists, Marcia van
Dyke, violin, Verlyn Thomas, violin,
Lerov Neff. cello. Blllle Wilson,
French horn, and Mary Sheldon, flute
deserve special mention aa also do
the piano accompanists. Miss Gene
vieve Brown, Miss Shirley Rlebel and
Miss Carlotta, Wiseman.
Words of commendation were heard
on every side for the enterprise. In
dustry and efficiency of Mr. Knight
and also for the co-operative spirit
of the musicians playing with the
students, and also of the enthusiasm
and understanding of the large audi
ence that completely filled the audi
torium. ,

DEFENSE TO OPEN
IN DAMAGE CASE
The defense tn the damage eutt of
Mrs. Gertrude M. Moffett of this city,
for 175,000 against J. J. Hendricks
waa expected to open thla afternoon
In circuit court. George Moffett, hus
tand of the plaintiff testified this
morning, and described the events
before and after the auto crash, in
volving two autoa and the Hendricks
truck, at Vorhels crossing, on the
Pacific highway, Stptember 27.
Mra. Moffett alleges In her ault.
the auto In which she was a passen
ger was hurled from the road, and she
sustained permanent Injuries, result
ing among other ailments In the
shortening of one leg.
Negligence by the driver of
truck u claimed by the plaintiff.
The defense contends the collision
waa caused by failure of Helmer O.
Moen to give proper signals, and ex
ercise due caution while attempting
to turn Into the Vorhele crossing
road.

Killed when run over by his own disc
while working alone, the body of
Piatt Hathaway of Ktger Island waa
found In hla field Wednesday after
noon. He was believed to have fallen

ADDED CHARGES
Additional charges will probably be
filed against Elmer Hub, 19. Ash
land youth, who with fifteen days of
a 90-day sentence for petty larceny
to serve, walked away from the coun
ty jail last Saturday while acting as
a trusty. Sheriff Syd I. Brown aald
today. Haab was captured Monday
evening by the state police near the
state line.
The sheriff said the 00-day sen
tence had apparently been meted, to
give Haab a "break," because of his
youth, though three statements ad
mitting burglaries had been made by
him. The prowling occurred In the
Ashland district, over a year or more.
The statementa and past record of
Haab will be presented to the court
for consideration. Under Oregon law
It la a felony to escape Jail or prison.
