A large attendance Is expected a 63 Royal Neighbor camps are located In Oregon. These camps have a com bined beneficial, social and Juvenile membership of 0,409, Mrs, Katherine H. Benton of Port land, state supervisor, will be a guest of honor and one of the principal speakers. The following district deputies are expected to attend: Mrs. Leonora Brollt of Ashland, Mrs. Maude h. Davis of Eugene. Mrs. Mray Jane Gray of Portland, Mrs. Marietta Jones of Milton, Mrs. Ada B. Lemon of Myrtle Point, and Mrs. Nellie Redlinger of Portland. On April 20 registration will be held at 10 a. m., with a luncheon at noon. A school of instruction will be held at 1:30 p. m. and a sight seeing trip will follow, while a re ception will be held at 8 p. m., fol lowed by an entertainment and fancy drills. State oamp business will be transacted April 31, includ ing election of state officers and se lection of delegates and alternates for the supreme camp, which opens June 31 in Colorado Springs. Colo. A banquet will be served at S p. m. and a memorial service, entertain ment and fancy drills will follow at 8 p. m. The present state officers Include Mrs. Mable Ragsdale of Baker, state oracle, and Mrs. Etta Bier of Crow, state recorder. , Jackson County Chamber of Com merce and Medford high school will assist In observance of "national for eign trade week" May 1Q to 33 Superintendent E. H. Hedrlck to day aotfted an invitation to Med ford high school students to compete in an essay contest designed to bring out the Importance of foreign trade. The winning essay will be awarded a $100 cash prize, other prizes to be In proportion. Grants Pass, The Da! lea, La Grande. Astoria and Bend high schools have already entered the con test. STAGLQPERETTA The operetta "An Old Kentucky Oarden" is to be presented by the Junior High school In the school au ditorium on April 33. The music la based on the well-known old plan tation songs by Stephen Collins Fos ter, adopted and arranged by O. A. Grant-Sch Refer. The libretto la by Payntcr. The boys' and girls' chorus of 120 voices Is under direct Ion of Miss Marylou Piper and Mrs. Esther Lenke. Costumes and dialogues are being prepured under supervision of Miss Gladys Benge, and the dances are under direction of Miss Marjorlo Kel ly. Miss Delle Whlsenant has charge of the staging. The scenery is being made by Miss Elizabeth Crls sell with members of Miss Benge 'a art classes assisting. Colorful scenery and clever dia logues plus the ability of the chorus and leading characters combine to make thts an unusual operetta pre sentation for a Junior high school. ill PLAN IE TUNNEL IN OREGON CAVES A new tunnel will be constructed In -the Oregon Caves this spring If planes are approved In time by na tional park officials In Washington, It was stated today by David Can- field, administrator of the national monument. The blueprints were submitted some time sgo and early approval Is anticipated, Mr. Can ft eld said. Purpose of the new tunnel Is to facilitate the progress of visitors through the caves so that more par ties can be accommodated In a given time. About six weeks would be re quired for the contemplated Improve ment, with CCO men doing the work. Mr. Can field related. The proposed tunnel would extend spur to the main tunnel and would obviate the retracing of steps by the visitors, Mr. Canfleld explained. The rpur has a dead end so that sight seers must retrace their steps to thu main tunnel. While one group is in the spur, others must watt at tho entrance. Under the proposed ar rangement one party will bo able to follow closely after another. FOREIGN TRADE WEEK TO BE OBSERVED BY DRAFT PLANS FOR CONVENTION HERE Although a definite meeting place for the expected 600 delegates who will attend has not been selected, plans for the state encampment of the United Spanish Wsr Veterans to be held In Medford July 11-14, Inclu sive, are progressing rapidly, accord ing to Joe Wood, commander of Col onel Sargent camp, convention host. Much Interest In the coming en campment is being manifest by tne state's 24 posts, Commander Wood states, and veterans of Medford and the auxiliary are working hard to arrange all details so that the hun dreds of delegates msy enjoy them selves to the fullest extent. He said that a central meeting place would be announced soon, snd that the convention committee's report would be heard In the near future. Hugh Rogers of Htllsboro, state commander, will attend the encamp ment. Wood said, as will other state officers from the various posts. C'hnmander Wood recalled portions of a speech given by Dr. R. Martin raised before old age pensioners here today the question of fonterlng a recall move ment against him. The movement of the 30th Infan try through Medford wilt give every one In tills area an opportunity to see a full-strength regiment on the move. One hundred and fifty ve hicles will transport the unit, which will camp overnight at the Jackson county fairgrounds. The regiment's 78-plece band will arrive In the afternoon ahead of the main convoy, and will "play the regi ment" Into Medford. At 7:30 o'clock In the evening the band will present a free public concert In the city park, and city authorities have al ready made plans to decorate the bandstand with pear blosoems and other flowers as part of the "Blossom Time" festivities. A baseball game between the regi ment's team and a local team Is planned for the afternoon on the fair grounds diamond. This also will be free to the public. . Commander Pleased Colonel Irving J. Phllllpson, com mander of the regiment, was In Med ford some weeks ago, making p. ana for the move. In a letter to Major O. R. Owens, commander of the Med ford CCC district, he expresses him self as enthusiastic over the recep tion being plsnned for the regiment and Invites the public to Inspect the encampment at the fairgrounds as well as attending the band concert. The regiment will leave San Fran cisco, Monday, April 19. encamping the first night at Redding. It will leave Redding about 6 a. m. Tuesday morning and Colonel Phllllpson ex pects to arrive here about 2 o'clock In the afternoon. The Eagles lodge is planning dance Tuesday evening to which the men of the 30th Infantry will be Invited. Francis Marshall, 23, of the Phoe nix district, charged with petty lar ceny, entered a plea of guilty In Jusk tlce court yesterday and was giveu a suspended 30-day sentence In the county Jail, with the condition he assist his father In the cutting 'A wood and pay the 4.B0 costs. Marshall pleaded guilty to stealing AO cents worth of brake-lining from the Wilson Motor Parts company. Arthur M. Backus of Jacksonville, charged with overloading a truck, was fined 95 and costs. T. T. Goldfrap, charged with im proper license tags on an auto, was fined (5 and costs. He was charged with bringing a used car from Cali fornia under a dealer's license. The Weather.
