Purucker and 17 other Medford buslneaa firms, ami IB other Medford firms, on Inter pleader, against the Oregon State Unemployment Insurance commla alon, will be Bought by Attorney O. K. Bengtson, counsel for plaintiffs. The suit attacked the constitution ality of the state Jobless Insurance law, and the Injunction sought to restrain Ita enforcement. The unemployment commission, ac cording to Attorney Bengtson, he modlltcd the original Interpretation of the law. which provided that em ployers of leas than four employes did not come under the provisions of the unemployment Insurance law. Under this Interpretation, large em ployers were held liable for penalties and payments, when employers of less than four employes were engaged, under the unemployment law. Purucker and other plaintiffs held in the suit that thla ruling was dis criminatory and resulted In the Cali fornia Oregon Power Co. of this city denying them Jobs and work, because they wore not within the unemploy ment law. The plantllfs were en gaged In businesses that brought fre quent orders from the power com pany. According to Attorney Bengtaon he unemployment commission has sent lettera to the .plalntllfs, advis ing them that the power company will not be liable for contribution: or penalties under the law. Th power company has also notified the plaintiffs to the same effect. Attornoy Bengtson said he would take final legal atopa next week for the dismissal of tho action. Purucker, an electrical contractor, and co-plalntlffa alleged that the law deprived them of buslnesss. The Purucker action Is separate from the suit of the Pinnacle Pack ing company and five other Rogue pater valloy packing plants, attack ing the constitutionality of the un employment Insurance law. and seek ing exemption from payments under the "agricultural clause" of the act. 1 IP FLANS TO ENLARGE FEDERAL OFFICES Senator Charles L. Mr. Lewis had lived In southern Oregon for many years and was held In high esteem by a vide circle of acquaintances. With his brother, Aus tin D. Lewis, Jr., end father, Austin D. Lewis, Br., lie operated the Lewis sawmill at Prospect. His mother and father were with him at the' time of his death, and his brothor and sister-in-law were enrouto to Ornen Bay when they received newa of his pass ing. Cheater Frank Lewis waa born in Everett, Wn., Juno 16, 1005. He re ceived his education In Everett. The family came to Medford In 1021 and later moved to San Jose, Cal. In findings re turned late Friday, hold Mrs. Lovlcka Waymack, county Jail matron, re sponsible for the auto-motorcycle ac cident lest Sunday afternoon on the Clngcade hlil section of the Crater Lake highway, resulting In the death later of Walter E. Van Eheen, 23, of Eagle Point. Four of tho six members of the coroner's Jury, signed the findings. They were: Thomas J. puson, H. F. Piatt, T. M. Kurtz, and T. A. Water man. The two not signing were H. N. Butler and L. O. Morthland. Deputy District Attorney George W. Hellson said the findings would be presented to the grand Jury schedul ed to resume sessions tomorrow. Mrs. Waymack did not testify at the Inquest, owing to Injuries received In the crash. Van nheen was a passenger aboard a motorcycle, driven by Glenn Brown. Just beyond the brow of Clngcade hill the m otorcycllata struck the rear fender of Mra. Waymack'a auto, and were hurled off the road. Mrs. Waymack sustained chest 1ft-. Juries when her auto left tho road, and rammed an embankment. Van Rheen and Brown underwent! amputations of their r.'aht legs Mon day, in an effort to save their lives. Van Rheen failed to rally. Brown's condition was reported as "hopoful . IN 1 929 ARRIVES I A postcard mailed at Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 17, 1020, was yesterday delivered hero to Kenneth F. Murray, Mall Tribune ad printer. The card waa signed by J. W. Hays, then secretary and treasurer of the International Typographical union, advising Murray that his dues for 1020 had been received.
