MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON", WEDNESDAY. NOVEMBER 11. 1936. Ashland-Medford Football Game At 2 p. m. Armistice Day Feature PAOE TWO FINAL ENCOUNTER OF YEAR SLATED IF Tigers In Fine Fettle Says Coach Ashland Hopes High for Victory Over Ancient Foes As Climax This afternoon at 3 o'clock the Medford and Ashland blgb school football teams plsy what will be the last home 'encounter of' the season for the Tigers, on the now turf Held bars. Estimates show that one of the largest crowds of the season, with merchants and businessmen off for the day, will be In attendance, , Oosoh Bill Bowerman last night an nounoed his team ready for the sn oounter. The mental attitude of the players, he said, Is at the best for the year, with no overconfldence, but an apparent determination to add the game to the local victory string after MTeral disastrous forfeitures. Rocked by a shake-up that affected almost every position on the team, the Black Tornado will do what few teams attempt present an entirely new offense from the one that carried the outfit to victories In all of their games but one. lana hers are vitally Interested In what Coach Bowerman. with but 10 days of drill at the new ast-up, will be able to present. Bowerman has credited the new of fense as stronger on straight power plays, but less deceptive and not so fast as the brilliant combination that started the year under the red and black banner. One possible backflcld combination, with . Baker, Eo:lng;r Bowman, and Morris would be the fastest group of bsll carriers the Tigers have presented this year, but such a combination would be possible only In the occasion of an Injury to Bskralda, and the loss of the steady fullback would be far greater than the advantage of extra speed, Bower man admitted.' . . The Grlcxlles have been looking for ward to the gam all season, with their minds set upon the hope of dumping the powerful Medford eleven. Coach Skeet OTonnel, In his first year of coaching at the Llthla City ehool, has produced a team that has played erratic football at times, but Is fully capable of rising to the height, as their surprise win over Orants Psas showed. As In past seaons In the bitter rival ry between the traditional ooponente,' Aahland will present everything they have In Che nature of deception, skill, fight and recklessness. As In past seasons the earns will be an unpre dictable one until the final gun, al though the revamped Tigers are given the edge ssally In the betting. In slew of the large crowd antici pated, those expected to get good seats are warned to be at the field early. Hy the Associated Press. ALBANY, N. Y.
