bring "The Big Broadcast of 1037"
to the screen of the Oraterlsn thea
ter today where It opens Its three
day local engagement.
Lavishly produced, tuneful, some
times madcap and always gay, this ;
new edition of the annual "Big
Broadcasts" Is expected to top all Its
- predecessors In the way of entertain
ment. Benny la In the role of a ra
dio station manager whose big head
ache la to keep Burns and Allen,
sponsors of an Important program,
happy. And, In so doing, he builds
up one big idea after another, in
which the country's leading expo
nents of different atylea of enter
tainment are allowed to "do their
stuff." There is "awing" music as
played by Goodman and his band,
admittedly tops for this brand of
tuneful entertainment. And, In ex
act opposite, there is the "sweet"
style, as provided by Leopold Sto
kowskt whose programs over the
Sunday Magic Key Hours have be
come one of radio's biggest attrac
tions. Before the picture Is over, the
two orchestras change styles the
swing band going to "sweet," and
Stokowski's orchestra trying out their
hand at Goodman's style.
Bob Burns is already well known
to picture fans, as is Martha Baye.
Both of them recently were shown In
"Rhythm on the Range at the Cra
terian. Prank Forest Is radio's new
voice find and la heard In the pre
sentation of some of the song num
bers Introduced In the picture. Benny
Fields, one of the top-notchers of
vaudeville for mtny years and more
recently starred over the air waves.
Is a whole show by himself. Loutt
DaPron and Sleanore Whitney are ad
mitted to be the country's "fastest
things on feet." Their tapping, nov
elty dances are said to be among the
picture's highlights. Larry Adler is
the young chap whose ability to play
a harmonica has lifted htm into the
big money class.
Adding to the fun Is Oracle's Idea
of the greatest idea In radio enter
tainment the presentation of Stan
Kavanaugh, noted Australian Juggler
who never says a word during his
yet. Oracle believes she la introduc
ing a new style of radio act one
