(UP) Alfred E. Smith lanh ed out at the New Deal administra tion last night aa having abandoned "the fundamental principles" of the democratic party, He spoke before 3600 cheering en thusiasts of Jefferspnlan democracy In his third campaign attack on the Roosevelt administration. "I want to talk about a billion dol lars,' he announced. "If you were to put away a dollar every minute since Christ died on Calvary you'd only have a billion dol lars and I want to show tonight how Utile the New Deal thinks of a billion dollars. Olves Statistics "Suppose you wanted to know how long it would take to pay the debt of the administration. You know how long It'd take to pay a billion dollars. Well, the government debt' now Is 34 billion. If you were to pay It back at the rate of a dollar a minute, well. It'd toko 69,000 years." "Well, who owes it? we1 do. who's going to pay It? we aro. When I hear this talk about soaking tho rich I know that if you took everything from the rich, Including their under shirt you couldn't pay any part of It." A heckler, waving an American flag, advanced to the front of the audi ence early during the talk and shouted unintelligibly at Smith. He I became red In the face as he accused Smith of "talking against our presi dent." The man was of foreign or igin and apoke with a strong accent. Meckler Thrown Out "What kind of language Is that?" Smith demanded. "If you gonna speak against our president," the heckler shouted, fend ing off a couple of husky interferes, then I gonna shout 'hooray for President Roosevelt I Hooray for'" Three burly police overtook him. The arm of one choked off the words. The heckler was hustled up the aisle with one last "hooray for President Koosevelt' as he was shoved out. He was the aame pudgy little man who ran to the front of the platform after President Roosevelt's speech at Chicago stadium last week and shout ed "hooray for President Roosevelt." After his first shouted question, Smith stood Impassive until the heckler was thrown out.
